Default Cleave\'s Weekend Trip Report Part 1

5:00 Thursday afternoon, eastern time. I cut the lights and lock the doors of my office and I'm out the door. Get to the house, change, bags are already packed, kiss the wife and kids and I'm outa' here. I get to my buddy's neighborhood and of course he's not even home yet (No big surprise.) I call him and he's just leaving and will be another 20 min. So it's up the street to my local watering hole for a beer. The Thursday night free-roll is just starting so all the losers wish me good luck in Vegas. Two Miller Lites and a shot of Jager and I'm out. Back to pickup my buddy, then on to the airport.

Two big beers and a burger at the airport bar; let's go! The plane is nice. We just got a new airline, all leather seats and non-stop to Vegas. Sweet. Stewardess comes by with my diet Pepsi and two bottles of jack. Sleepy Time.

9:10pm Vegas. We get down to baggage claim and a nice surprise. There's five guys on this trip and one of my friends called ahead and set us up a Limo. Nice!

Check-in: Up to the room to unpack, then down to the tables. All the tables are full at Bally's and Paris, looking for a cocktail waitress. Put $100 down on some new funky Texas Hold-Em table game. Still looking for a freak'n cocktail waitress. Bally's has a new section with about 8 tables called the Party Pit, all the dealers wear Hawaiian shirts and dance around to loud music and smile a lot. I really need a drink now. BOOM! Pocket Aces pays me the bonus on a $5 bet for $150!..YES! Still no waitress. They also give me a little stuffed parrot for the pocket rockets. Cool, one kid present, just need one more.

Midnight: Table opens on the 1/2 NL. A couple of Asians, some Eastern European guy (calling station,) some young Canadian Punks, and a couple of locals. What's up with all the Canadians this weekend? Finally got a waitress; but she's got the personality of zit and she's pissed at the Eastern European guy so she's avoiding my table. EU guy's ordering Courvoisier and Coke. Who does he think he is P-Ditty? Local guys are typical 25 year olds with sunglasses, ipods, a ball cap, and some stupid T shirt from Abercrombie. I love these guys! They like to push and so do I. I'll also chase a straight or flush early on just to piss them off. Sometimes it's cool to be 40 with a good job. 3:30am: I've doubled up to $400 and I get pocket J's. I bet out and get three callers. Flop: K, J, 7. Bet, call, call, raise, call, call, call. 7 on the turn! Sweet, a full boat for me. River Ace. I bet $50, raised to $100 by 2nd position. Last to act goes all-in! WTF!!! I'm getting PAID!!! I go all-in, CALL, CALL. Third base shows two pair AK, I show my boat and the guy on my left shows pocket K's for a bigger boat. AAAAHHHH! I hate this game. I lost everything that I've earned the last 3hrs. Where's the waitress? I should have gone to bed 2 hrs ago.

Friday 12:00pm Caesars - Play the noon tournament for $130. I make it to about 30th around 4:00pm. Man that's a lot of work for no money. Hung out for a while and played let it ride. Doubled up my $200 buy-in. Alright!!!! One of my buddies is still in it to 9th , just in the money. I sat at a 1/2 table with $200 waiting for the end of the tourney. First hand, pocket Kings, I raise $20 and get 4 callers, A-hole Big Blind re-raises $50. I raise $50 more and he says I put you all in. Before I have a chance to tell this focker he can't put me all-in, only I can put myself all-in, the dealer does it for me. I call. And of course he's got the Aces and I don't improve. I gotta get away from the tables for a while and relax.

Me and a few buddies need a break. The guy hawking the cabs at Caesar's recommends the Spearmint Rhino Center for the Performing Arts. Let me tell you, that group is talented. Cirque du Soleil should be nervous. WTF? $100 for 3 songs? What about the happy ending?

Back to Bally's by about 8:30, up to the room to change, drop the kids off at the pool and brush my teeth. Catch the mono-rail to MGM. Did they raise the prices again? WTF? No wonder no one rides the damn thing. Plus it's 17 freak'n miles to the poker room from the back of the casino at MGM. All the 1/2 tables are full, so I opt for an open seat at a 2/4 Limit Table. First hand; pocket Aces, yep. I'm doomed. Raise, re-raise, re-raise, capped, etc... down $40 when they call my name for the 1/2 table. After a few hands, I'm on the BB with 6, 7 clubs. It's $16 to me and I call. Flop comes Ace-d 8, 9 clubs. I check. There's 4 in the pot. Next to act bets $20 and we all call. 5 of hearts on the turn. I hit my straight!!! I bet $50 like I'm trying to steal, hoping someone has an Ace or a set. I get re-raised to $100 and then last to act calls All-in for about $30 more! WTF! Is he on a flush draw or something? I better not get screwed again! I call and so does the early position. The river is a deuce. I check and next player bets all-in for a side pot. I call and just like I had hoped, the guy to my left has pocket Aces for a set and the other player shows AK clubs for top pair and the flush draw. Whewwwwww!!! I finally get a hand to hold up. Sweet! I take down a monster pot and I'm up for the weekend, including the little diversion to the Rhino. I play one more round of the button, just to be nice and cash out. Back to Bally's for some Margarita's and something to eat at the Tequila Grill, and off to bed. Two days left and I need some rest.

There was a hockey tournament in Vegas last weekend, that might have had something to do with the Canadians.
