Default is the ps3 the cheapest way to get a blu-ray DVD player?

Thanks in advance. Also, it's time to upgrade the old HDTV..I've read all the arguments but want to hear OOT opinions:

plasma or LCD? Assume 50+ inches with 1080p desired if possible.

LCD is only option for that size and resolution within a reasonable cost... ~5k?

PS3s are running $600, and your standard Sony Blu-Ray player from Best Buy or wherever starts @ $900.

After a little research it seems that PS3s make excellent blu-ray players.

So why the [censored] are they even selling them? They could just sell the PS3's giving people the chance to buy more products.

B/c they don't have an inventory of PS3s to sell. I'm sure BB would love to have more PS3s

Have you considered HD-DVD? They have more available movies and players are a fraction of the cost of blu-ray players.

Not true. You can walk in almost any store and find a PS3.

Maybe in Maryland, but I have yet to see a PS3 in any store in Southern California. Granted I have not been looking super hard, but I'm pretty sure they are not that readily available in store as of yet.
