I hate it when people do this. I was at Medieval times with a group of friends. I had a Daquiri pre-show. Late in the show, one of the guys I dislike (douche bag) asks if I am going for another drink. I say something to the effect of, "I'm good for now." He comes back with a daquiri for me and drink for one of the other girls. It was 5 of us in a row, the other person being the designated driver. I say thanks and he says "you get the next round."
turns out that one of the girls bought the drinks. But I didn't know it at the time. I hate this, I feel that I owe douche bag a drink. I hate having people in my debt and I hate feeling that I owe someone something. I think the best policy should be that everyone buy their own drinks unless there is some special reason why you buy a round (eg. birthday, friend did something nice). I will once in a while (1 in 4 nights out) buy a good friend a drink and not expect anything in return. I know I am in the minority here, but this is just how I feel. |

If someone who wasn't a good friend bought me a drink and expected one in return, I'd probably feel similarly.
But for good friends, we always buy rounds. Buying your own drink is lame |

What pisses me off, is when good friends ignore that you bought them a drink, and don't just go buy the next round.

I will regularly buy a round for people I am not close with, but I wouldn't like it if they asked or expected it.

This should be common amongst pretty good friends.
If 5 of us are out and we know we're going to be out for a couple hours we'll each buy a pitcher since were all going to end up drinking one anyway. But if you are with mere acquaintences, or you are not going to be out very long, it's silly. |

I think if people are going to buy a round, they shouldn't say "you get the next round" and make it sound like they're doing you some kind of favor. If you have to buy the next round, in actuality they have done absolutely nothing. Yet, they still say it as if they are being generous. Just STFU and buy the round or buy just your own drink.

My friends and I always buy rounds for each other - it is basically understood that we will each take care of a round. If someone ends up not buying a round or buying less rounds, it is no biggie as it all evens out in the long run. And if not, they are good friends, so who cares.
When I'm out with a group of randoms, which is rare, then it is usually every man for himself - no reason to buy randoms drinks and no reason for me to do the same. If it does happen then I don't really think twice as I'm sure I've bought drinks for randoms as often as drinks have been bought for me - it works out and is not worth stressing over in the slightest. Have a good night - if buying randoms drinks will not help that then don't participate. I doubt it happens that often that randoms will buy you drinks when you say you don't want one or want to participate in rounds. |

Douche bag was trying to make fun of me for drinking a daquiri. I guess because I am a man, the only acceptable drink is beer. Yes, yes, I think I understand now |
