Not really... Most Americans don't know too much about world events because our papers don't really cover world news all that well. Also, we only live in the immediate vacinity of a few countries, unlike European states. I'm not making excuses for stupidity, but I think a lot of Europeans don't know all that much about the US either...

We are in the immediate vicinity of less countries than you and our population is considerably more intelligent about the world. It has to do with the US education system, or really, the lack thereof.
