Default Please help out a newbie!

Hello

I've being playing poker for almost two years, at first, I only play NL, but in the last year or so, I only play Limit hold'em.

The problems that I'm always having is that at first, I would always win a lot of money, and I would win and win for 15 straight days, however, there will be one point in time that I will lose all my bankroll soon or later, I just have a feeling that it's coming soon or later, and this has happen to me many many times before, it's just like the following cycle:

WIN WIN WIN WIN LOSE WIN WIN LOSE..WIN WIN WIN...

And then LOSE and boom the next day, I would lose them all.

Part of the reason is that I can't handle the fact that I'm losing for the day, so I would go chase, and move on to higher limit hoping to make it back in the same day, well, and you know what happen, the combination of bad plays, bad lucks, unfocus, tilt has costing me to go busto.

Please help me out, I wonder how I can become a consistent winner, I want to build my bankroll and move up to the next level as my BR grow, I do not want to wasting all my times, and then in a day or two, and go busto, and lose all my winnings and deposits.

I also wanted to add that I still have about $1500 to play Limit hold'em with, what limit do you guys suggest to play? How can I beat the rake in the long run in order to win? and How can I avoid losing my bankroll in a day or two?

what limit do you play at? don't play so high that a big portion of your bankroll could be at risk at any time! if you find a site with bonus and rakeback that can help your winrate. do you have pokertracker to track your hands to make sure you are a long run winning player? winning or losing, short-term variance can really mess with you.

That's the whole reason, not part of it.

Winning poker is a grind. It's not about making that huge payday and jumping into games with the Chans and the Negreanus and the Hansons. It's about sitting your butt in a chair for hours on end and grinding out a few big bets per hour. Folding preflop 30 times in a row, and still having the discipline to fold AJs on the button when a tight player raises from early position on the next hand. It's about shrugging off the bad beats, as much as possible, and waiting until you once again have an equity edge before you get involved in another pot. Every bad beat you take or cooler you get dealt into is factored into that long term win rate, and will eventually be balanced out by that maniac who keeps reraising with 4 high or the calling station who can't let his pocket fives go on an AKxxx board.

With $1500 you're bankrolled for 2/4 limit, barely. But if you're inexperienced in limit hold'em, and especially if you frequently have tilt issues, I'd recommend starting at 1/2 or even lower. You're not trying to get rich here, just to develop your skills and especially to develop the discipline you're going to need to win at higher limits.

Well, don't do that.

Negative progression gambling always has the possibility of disastrous losses. If you don't want to have disastrous losses, don't increase the stakes when you are behind.

truth.

most people play badly, and most of the skilled ones have tilt issues/ playing above limits like you. this is where a skilled, disiplined, patient player gets his/her edge from.

tight is right, this isn't rocket science.

Losing doesn't equal failing. It's a mathematical certainty that the cards will bite you in the ass eventually.

In September/October I was on a run, up $1127 (188 BB) over 10 sessions at B&M 3/6 limit. You get that feeling of invicibility. However, I never truly forgot that I was going to have to eat a big turd sandwich eventually.

The next three sesssions, I dumped back $348 (58 BB).

The two after that... up $916 over two nights at 3/6 & 4/8 (120 BB).

You're going to get nailed. As surely as some donk is going to chase to the end with no touch and a back-door two-pair draw. Know it's coming, accept it, and stay focussed on your goal... Winning money and moving up to win more money.

Chasing is an evil little desire in all of us that needs to be squashed. 75o in the SB starts to look good against an EP raise. Take a breath and evaluate each hand in its context...and be patient.

Thank you guys for all the comment.

The good thing is that I could probably tell others to do the same thing you guys told me to if they ask me for advice having the same exact situation.

The sad thing is that I just can't do it, it's like out of control for me when that happens. I know I was playing bad, but I still do it, arh....

What would you guys do if a guy on your left will just keep raising you every hand when he's on the small blind?
