I have a HP DV1000 laptop and it is incredibly loud. It sounds like jumbo jet preparing for take off. I'm going to be replacing the fan (having a friend do it for me). On ebay, the fans are often sold with a heat sink. It doesn't seem to be much more expensive than the ones sold with just a fan. How do I know if I need a new heat sink or not? The bottom of the laptop gets hot at times. Should I just go ahead and replace the heat sink as well?
Thanks. |

(But you do want the heatsink well attached. If replacing them together is going to cheaply make that easier, it's not so awful.) A question along the same lines: Can I replace my laptop fan with a more expensive silent fan? I've seen sites specializing in silent PSUs and case fans (and harddrives and DVDROMs and everything), but I wonder if there are effective replacements for laptops. |

Most of the cooling units in laptops are fan/heatsink combos. They actually are 2 seperate pieces but theyre almost always sold together. Most times it's bc they are a pain to seperate. I'm not sure on your exact model, but I would imagine that's the case. Search HP's site for the maint. manual to find out.
