Re: 2nd set facing huge overbet 200NL
YUCK!
I think this is 98 or a bluff. I'd personally call here, but I wouldn't like it. *Edit: why didn't you bet the flop? |

Re: 2nd set facing huge overbet 200NL
Yea, I know I should have bet the flop. I was thinking that he wouldn't have called that big of a raise with a hand that gives him a straight draw on that flop, and that a bet on the flop just gets Ks and sets to call and any hand I have beat to fold.
Looking back, I probably should have bet. |

Hi Bob, [ QUOTE ] a bet on the flop just gets Ks and sets to call and any hand I have beat to fold [/ QUOTE ] This isn't really correct thinking for the flop. On the flop you should be thinking more along the lines of not giving free cards when you have a hand, and finding out where you stand in the hand. The turn you think about giving incorrect odds. The river is where your thinking applies. Garon |

Re: 2nd set facing huge overbet 200NL
SB has no hand that beats you that a halfway-reasonable player would have. (Too bad you don't have a read that he's not reasonable, or something)
Call...happily. |

Re: 2nd set facing huge overbet 200NL
This is a pretty good time to practice a concept that was kicked around in another forum, and one that might benefit all of us:
Call more big bets on the river and call fewer small bets. |

Hi epdaws, Is the theory behind that, that small bets are more likely to be value bets and big bets are more likely to be bluffs? Garon |

Hi epdaws, Is the theory behind that, that small bets are more likely to be value bets and big bets are more likely to be bluffs? Garon [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. I understand that once in a while a massive overbet will be a value bet designed to look like a bluff. But how often do we end up with the nuts or near to it and decide that overbet pushing is going to be reliably paid off? Not often. But pushing a missed draw is not uncommon. Sklansky has dealt with this concept in recent posts. I would add that this is often dependent on Villain, as maniacs or downright morons simply don't understand that overbet pushing the nuts on the river is not a good way to get value. The question is, do we have the stones to make the big calls? |

Re: 2nd set facing huge overbet 200NL
Actually, Mr. Sklansky was arguing that point with the HSNL guys, probably in an attempt to see how they are reacting to his new book.
