Re: $16 - 1st hand : 99
lead flop. fold to a raise from utg. Were you planning on check/raising? check/calling? BB has an 8, you can pay him off on the river or not.

Re: $16 - 1st hand : 99
it looks like he has an 8. he s betting into 3 people on the turn and 2 on the river so he should have u beat usually i think. probably fold the river.

Re: $16 - 1st hand : 99
rex, I hate check/calling here. Leading out is better because you don't let missed overs dictate the betting and dont give them free cards. This is a flop that is very unlikely to hit your opponent's hands, but if you check/call planning to fold to a large turn bet you are basically giving your opponent two free shots to catch up to beat you, and still know nothing about his hand. Utg isn't gonna bluffraise you, especially with someone left to act behind him, so you can be pretty confident you are beat if you get raised.
basically, you are very likely to have the best hand at the moment but your hand is very very vulnerable and you don't particularly want to see the flop check through. Seize the betting impetus here. Leading out into 3 people on a garbage flop says you have something, but your something isn't good enough to go to the felt with, so just try to take the pot down now. |

Re: $16 - 1st hand : 99
Dan : I disagree.
I can't what's good in leading into 3 players, including a UTG raiser, really. If I'm raised, I will fold the best hand a good % of the time. If I'm called, I will check most turn and fold to turn, so basically I lost more chips, that's all. C/c allow me to keep the pot small and take it a good % of the time. Remember this is the 1st hand of a $16 here, so of the 3 villains, at least one of them will probably do something really stupid (BB in our example) |

fwiw i agree with rex i think this hand plays horribly oop and leading the flop would just magnify oop shortcomings of the hand.

My whole point about leading is that it costs the same as calling, and I think that it lessens the oop shortcomings of the hand. You understand that if you check and call, planning on giving up to a turn bet, that it is EXACTLY the same as betting and being called, and giving up to a turn bet, right? The difference is that a) you are giving up on the idea of winning without a showdown, and b) giving free cards to hands that can easily catch up to beat you but would fold now. Letting the player in position dictate the pace of the hand and the amount of money that goes in by randomly check/calling oop is silly. Also, if you were called by one player, and the turn bricked, I would bet for value. |

Re: $16 - 1st hand : 99
Ok, I see your point.
FWIW, I think I should have led the turn after everybody checked as the 8 helped noone. |

Re: $16 - 1st hand : 99
oh, and you have decisions to make if someone other than original raiser raises you. I think if you lead flop, bb raises, and the other two fold you should likely get all in.
