Eh. Nothing special, really. The new Big Star album wasn't that great either.

Matthew Sweet does do some really good stuff. You could make that argument but I'm not sure (need more of his material honestly). The Posies also have a similar sound (which is why they took a couple of their members for the Big Star "reunion").

I think James Mercer and Carl Newman are probably the cloest thing we have these days.

Also, don't underrate the role Chris Bell had in Big Star. His solo disc I Am the Cosmos is really good. And almost nobody knows about it.

James Mercer lost many many points with this latest yawnfest.

Biggest disappointment since First Impressions of Earth.

And honestly, nobody really ever took the Strokes seriously, so how disappointed could you really be?

Oh, it's not THAT bad. It's not that awesome, either, though. But since Chutes too Narrow is the closest thing this decade will ever see to a Big Star album he gets a permanent reprieve for that.

I heard from a friend that the new Modest Mouse makes GNFPWLBN sound like Lonesome Crowded West.

It hurts me so.
