Is Chip Reese the smartest poker player alive?
We know he's the best--every top pro agrees he's been the best for a long time. He's got nothing left to prove. Phil Ivey is talked up as the best of the younger generation which he certainly deserves to be and a debate about who is the better player, Reese/Ivey, would be fun but it's not my question. Nor am I interested in a Sklanskyesque pissing contest about which ten high IQ players could've done ten Ivy League phds in nuclear physics had they not been sidetracked by the exciting world of gaming. The smartest? I say it's the guy who, aside from writing the seven-stud section of Super System 1 thirty years ago, has never, ever, given away any of his knowledge. Not in a book. Not in a DVD. Not in a reality tv show. He's never sought publicity or courted public opinion. Think about it. It's been hands down all the way. Chip Reese is the smartest poker player alive!

Re: Is Chip Reese the smartest poker player alive?
its a hypothesis certainly, if you assume being private=smart.
this could be good b/c no one knows your tricks but lots of players have gained tons of un-due action by devulging stuff about themselves. maybe if one comes out with book on play 100% of hands of some realy loose style it would be beneficial to them b/c of the aciton they would get. im really down with chip but not your argument. |

Re: Is Chip Reese the smartest poker player alive?
Your argument is pretty flawed.
There are plenty of books by expert poker players that give away little of their true secrets (see phil hellmuth's work and play with him at a tourney very different) So the only thing him not writing a book, doing endorsements and such is : a. he is not interested in publicity. b. he does not want to write a half assed book that wont tell you how he really plays. And yeah its pretty cool that he has never tried to make a quick buck outside project like just about every other famous pro. |
