Default New Venetian Promo: 6 Max Tables with $3 max rake

According to an ad in Poker Player magazine, the V is going to start spreading 6MAX tables with $3 max rake (normal games ate 10 handed and have a $4 max rake). The ad specifically gears itself toward internet players. It also mentioned that the $3 max rake will be through April and May.

Normally, I would think that this is a recipe for disaster, but with 39 tables, they can afford to run this experiment on a couple tables with no real effect on the room.

Thoughts?

Virtual meets Reality

Missing your online poker with its six handed table and minimal rake? Then step up to the Venetian Poker Room, where you'll experience the action of the online game amid the elegance of what Bluff magazine called "The Best All Round Poker Room" in the country.

We're emulating the online games you love with six player tables, rathen the nthe usual 10, and a $3 max rake througout April and May. Live poker at the Venetian means more hands, faster play, and more money in your pocket.

Too bad the weak passives that play live ring games won't ever sit in a live 6 max game......

What games are they doing this with? All games and stakes?

No idea. My source was just the ad, which does not mention the stakes. My assumption would be 1/2NL ($300max) and possibly 2/5NL(1Kmax), but that is just a guess.

I'd play. A bunch of internet guys trying to play the real game live is a recipe for profit.

Yeah, I would consider playing this too.

Lots of players spewing way too much.
This is assuming it's limit though.
If it's NL I'll just stick to the 10-player comfort-zone because I'm so much farther behind on the learning-curve.

Clark - Thanks for your response. Didn't realize it was that big a deal practically being across the street from where you think they should be.
But it can easily take an extra 10-15 minutes just to get from one place to another whether walking or driving.

LV is a funny town when trying to guage how long it takes to get from point-A to point-B.

The Mirage tried this and failed. They even built special smaller tables which would comfortably fit exactly six players.

However, that was in late 2004/early 2005(?). It may be time to try the idea again. Though, I haven't noticed any demand for the games.

Will never go over with the live regs. The game can be 8 handed and they all start bitching and moaning about being short handed, skateboarding on the sidewalk, and those damn punks with their rock music.

QFT and another thing to add was anytime the games got 4 and 5 handed, the players were crying for rake reductions and/or getting up and missing their blinds because they didn't want to play "short" and the games kept busting up.

I foresee the exact same thing happening yet again. Live short handed vs online short handed just wont work. Online those same short handed players are usually at 3+ tables, live just doesn't have the same action for them.
