Default Since Not Everyone Reads the PLO Forums

I think this is a much better read than ZJ's supernatural crap. Hopefully it will help people to think a bit more different about poker:

great thread, thanks a lot!

i'm reading MOP and it's nice to see that there's a good deal of disagreement on the ideas presented there.

i don't know it well enough to determine who is getting owned but either way, it's a definite game-theory-nerd throwdown.

Cool thread. I wasted alot of time with the game-theory-flame-war at the end, and kind of wish i could go back in time and not read it. So, to all: STOP ~15 REPLIES DOWN!

The first handful of posts are really good, the dispute about the definition of optimal mixed strategies is not really worth the time.

I didn't go that far

There are a lot of really good threads in the NL forums. Very high quality, the kind of analysis that can make one think differently about poker.
And this was one of the reasons that I started flirting with NL and now also with PLO.
I hope that we could see more high quality posts in the SH FL forums and less flame wars.

Actually, this is untrue. If I happen to see somebody agreeing with something you're saying I'll most likely have to flame them

This is a good little article, and an easy way to break this sort of thing down and understand it a bit better (particularly in HU situations / HU play) is to just figure out the "optimal" way things work and go backwards from there. Once you understand how often you're allowed to get away with certain things mathematically (be it calls, bluffs, weird value plays etc) it's easy to adjust your frequencies and decide what stuff to underdo or overdo based on how your expect your opponent to deal with certain sorts of things. When the hand ranges get wide enough you can usually get away with a little bit of just about anything and "too much" of plenty of stuff.

Oh, here's a good trick. If you want to see how often your opponent has a "piece" of something open up pokerstove and fill out whatever board with some blank cards or cards that make the 3 straight or whatever, give yourself the nut K or A high and see how often he connects. You can also see how your equity changes as different types of cards peel off, or how much things like different 3 betting ranges affect your equity with certain hands on certain flops.
