Default Where would you rather Play ??????? (Long)

Imaginary Scenario

The Set Up

1) 2 different companys open up a card room across the street from each other.

2) The state has just legalized gambling.

3) There is a LARGE player base that will not dry up anytime soon.

4) The state has no laws concerning limits and maximum bets.

5) There are no other card rooms for 400 miles.

6) There was a way to block all internet poker within that 400 miles.

Where would you play.

Card room A :

1) Free Booze.

2) Player card tracking that gives you 1.00 dollar for every hour you play, that can be used on food, booze, merchandise even tournament entries.

3) Rake and Time Charge are about par with the industry standard.

4) Dealers and floor management is very average they are not truly horrible but don't really put forth any effort other than to earn tips and their salaries.

5) Cardroom has High Hand, Jackpot hands, and Bad Beat Jackpots which are removed from the pots at 1 dollar for each.

6) Casino has weekly high hand awards. (Tee shirts-hats-coffee mugs etc)

7) Smoking is only allowed in the bars and designated areas There is an area about 20 yards from the poker room for quick smoke breaks in between a few hands.

8) Weekly tournaments ranging from 20 $ with rebuys up to 120 dollar freezeouts.

9) Room has 20 tables

2 2/4 limit tables
5 3/6 limit tables
3 3/8 limit tables
2 8/16 limit tables
2 1/2 N/L tables
2 2/5 N/L tables
1 5/10 N/L table
3 Tables designated for High Limit players that may request the game of their choice.

10) Room has free monthly freerolls 2k prize pool based on 20 hours play a month.

CardRoom B

1) All drinks are 3 dollars. (Coffee and soda is 1 dollar)

2) Smoking is allowed at the tables

3) Mangagement staff and dealers are top notch pro's who care about their job

4) No player tracking system but they will give you a 4 dollar food comp for every 4 hours you play and they can be saved and used toghether up to 100 dollars.

5)Rake and Time Charge are exactly 1/2 of the casino across the street.

6) No Jackpots, so there is no extra drop to go along with the 1/2 rake

7) There is a Royal Flush wheel which can be spun by any player getting a Royal. Most prizes are hat's, tee-shirts, coffee mugs etc but there are 2 spots on the 100 spot wheel that have 2,000 dollars and a 42' Plasma Flat Screen TV

8) If a player logs 20 hours in a week he will be invited to a sunday morning freeroll. The top two finishers each will will square off in an 8 man SNG first place is 4000 dollars second pays 2000 dollars and third pays 1000 dollars.

9) Card Room has 40 tables
10 tables designated as SNG request tables (Limits determined by sign-up)
30 tables of various limit and NL games Including stud, HORSE, Omaha, O/8 Stud/8 etc. Hold'em games range from 3/6 to the highest someone will request. Stud is the same 1-5 spread limit to the roof.

10) Weekly tournaments range from 65 to 200 with a monthly 1k tournament and a bi-monthly 5k tournament. Satilite SNGS can be requested at any time in the SNG area.

Now each room has it's +'s and -'s. So which room would you want to play in ???????????

IMO The fish would flock to room A for the free booze, the entertainment, Jackpots, and the freebee's that come with the player tracking.

The sharks would want to Play in room B because of the low rake and no jackpot drop.

So here's another question If all the fish were playing in room A wouldn't it be logical that the sharks would follow them. Would room B stay in business?????

WHERE WOULD YOU PLAY

I'd play at B not because of the lower rake, but for the mixed games, the excellent staff and the tournament action. If the smoke was bad, I'd be forced to go to room A, but if it was tolerable, I'd play at B in a second.

If all the fish went to room A as you suggest (which I don't necessarily think is true), I may spend some time there. Even recreational players will figure out that a lower rake will be good for them in the long run.

A for 2 reasons: I hate smoke and free drinks.

I don't drink while I play, but I LOVE playing against drunks.

A, because A will soon attract all the fish who care about the amenities that A has to offer. They're out to gamble it up and have some fun, and they don't want to be paying for drinks while they lose their money.

On the other hand if I ever feel like spending some of the bankroll I've built up at A on learning to beat really tough games, without putting that much at risk, I'll go play in the rock garden at B.

A, not even close for me. I stopped reading what B had to offer when I saw they could smoke at the tables.

The smoking killed it for me as well. Too bad, I hate paying the BBJ drop but I guess that it is worth it to me so my clothes don't smell like [censored] when I am done playing.

Room A. For all the reasons stated by other posters; the lack of smoke and all the drunk fish at A.

A.) Everything else good in A could be given to B and I'd still take non-smoking over smoking and it's so far from close it's not even close. That's how far it is.

PS

Who cares about free t-shirts, and jackpot drop is not a perk.
