Default Caesar\'s Palace: 1/2NL is now 1/3NL

As of this morning, the 1/2 NL games are now 1/3. Still the same 100min/500max. With their new $330 Saturday tournaments and now this, are they trying to give Wynn a run for their money?

I wasn't sure I would like it at first, and Caesar's is pretty much where I play 90% of my poker, but after a +$215 in 3 hours, I think I'll manage.

did they increase the rake in this game too?

This makes no sense at all? For what reason are they doing this?

If it was 1/3NL uncapped like the Wynn then I would understand but to just change the BB and keep the same max-buy in I don't get it?

Also are they using 3-dollar chips like the wynn or just reds/blues as usual.

For the forseeable future it seems they are staying with blue/mint/red (1/2/5) with slightly more mint in play than usual. It didn't feel like it took any more effort or time to make change. The game went pretty smoothly. Opening raises seemed roughly the same size as when it was 1/2, $10-$15 (my standard raise was $13 in honor of the new 1/3 blinds), and the game didn't seem like it played much bigger if it did at all.

I don't mind if they keep the cap on the game. In fact, for Malmuthian reasons, I think the lowest level no-limit in a casino SHOULD be capped. Buying in for 250bb was nice, but 167bb didn't feel all the different.

This does not surprise me. Treasure Island also does a 1/3 game, and their justification is because of their $500 max. They said that if there max was $200-$300 like everywhere else, they would have 1/2 blinds, but since their max is $500, they have 1/3 blinds. I would think this same reasoning is at least partly why Caesars took that step (surprised they didn't do it sooner).

Having said all that, if anyone can explain why EXCALIBUR's NL game is 1/3, please tell me! (it has a $200 max).

I'm more in favor of having a 2/3 blind game vs a 1/3 blind game, but that's just me. Anyways, if anyone sees any differences in the game, please post back with trip report(s).

1/3 almost always benefits the better players.

Default Re: Caesar\'s Palace: 1/2NL is now 1/3NL - easy answer as to why

1/2 = 5 players limp to get to $10 to start the drop
1/3 = 4 players limp to get to $10 to start the drop

Still plays the same, for good and bad.

The rumor mill, though, is they are thinking of doing something retardedly stupid, and that is capping the 2/5 (at what number, I dunno) and making a 3/5 game uncapped on top of it. Apparently some short-sighted brilliant mind's been at Red Rock/GVR a little too much lately.

Between this and eliminating top shelf booze in the poker room I think the efficiency experts have been auditing the room and the poker environment on the Strip and feel the need to shake things up. 1/2 to 1/3 is nothing. I would be concerned if they get cuter though and start messing with the other games.
