Default Venetian $330 Tough river decision.

Start w/ 6k. 225 entrants. Avg stack about 8800. Hero has 20500 and is one of the current leaders only one that has him covered is also at the table w/ about 22k. Villain seems to be a pretty solid player.

first level after the break. Blinds 100-200 w/ 25 ante.

Hero is Button w/ 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Folds to Villain in MP who makes it 800. Folds to Hero who calls.

Flop: (1925)5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Villain checks, Hero checks.

Turn: (1925) 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Villain bets 1500. Hero raises to 3500.
Villain goes into tank for about 4 min then makes the call.

River: (6925) A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Villain checks, Hero bets 2000 villain raises all-in.

Hero...

When I look back after that card comes off I don't think the river is a great value bet.

I really felt like AQ was a possibility the way this hand played out. But when he thought so long on the turn I thought maybe AA.

I'm pretty sure villain could do this with KQ, QJ, QT or even a busted flush draw? (given that you tanked and called, and now bet when he checked)

I also think value betting this river is standard.

I didn't tank and call. He bet the turn and I raised. He tanked and called.

Not worried about AQ due to his thinking delay.

AA is a definite worry as you seem to have shown a liking to the two queeens.

Happy with the value bet on river but struggling to think about what he could do this with apart from AA.

Not going along with a bluff because he doesn't need to bluff 2nd place when CL.

I'd call then be gutted when he shows AA but thats me. Very disciplined to fold here I think.

What's your image like? I'm trying to think what villain is putting you on in this hand. Is it possible that he's putting you on a busted draw?

Otherwise, what's his range on the preflop raise? The only hands I can see him betting 4x BB, tank calling the turn, and reraising all in on the river are AKs, and AA. KQ is possible, but what's to think about after your turn raise?

Man, this is tough... If you've shown a willingness to be bet off hands (especially after showing some aggression) then I'd call here. I'm begging for a reason to call here, but AA seems likliest among the AA, AKs, KQ, and KK possibilities (I guess quads is possible too).

OP called, so he didn't get chance to reraise.

Does anyone else bet this flop? I would have bet 1500 on the flop I think because you're getting action from just about any pocket pair, obviously any queen, and you're probably not getting paid very much by a hand like AK, AJ that improves later in the hand. Not to mention he could also have checked into sevens full. I think slow playing can be very effective quite often, but his line PF and on the flop leads me to believe that a bet would let you figure the hand out much quicker than having to piece it together on the river. I actually expect to see 77 more than AQ here but I'm a donkey so who knows
