the rake
Hey Gang,
Is a (10% to 5.00 maximum) rake beatable in 3/6, assuming opponents play badly? How about if there is a kill to 6/12 (max rake remains 5.00) that is in play approx 20% of the time? If any math types want to chime in, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Jogger |

Re: the rake
That sounds like a horrible game to try and beat. Can you even resist the temptation to tip the dealers?

Re: the rake
Yeah - these are "charity games" - you can't tip (it's illegal, weird as that sounds).

Re: the rake
sure, but I'm not sure how badly they would have to play, and I don't know anything about how good you are.
play some hands, observe their errors, figure out how costly they are and how frequent they are. then make the decision yourself. |

Re: the rake
Yes it can be beaten, but you have to be a near psychic player and practically read everyone's hands and betting tendancies. If you constantly have to "look them up" then you cant win. You also have to play optimal strategy pre-flop and play very well after the flop. Your opponents should play fairly poorly. Just because they are playing loosely pre-flop doesnt necessarily mean they are playing poorly, either. You also have to avoid short-handed tables, be very patient, and not tilt despite getting constantly rivered. If you can do all that consistantly, you can definitely win. If you cant or cant consistantly, you will probably break even or lose.

Re: the rake
The game at my local casino is a 3/6/12 game. One has the option to bet 6 or 12 on the river. The rake is 10%-$5 max. There is no kill. I'm currently beating it for about $11-12 per hour. However, my sample size is small (about 40 hours).
The players are absolutely terrible. They make horrible mistakes pre-flop and post-flop. Usually the game is very loose passive, but sometimes a horrible lag will make it loose aggressive. I play very well pre-flop and post-flop. I'm always the best player at the table. I never tilt. How much more profitable does the $12 river bet option make this game with this rake structure? Normally, 3 big bets per 100 hands is the max one could expect in a limit game. How would the expected win rate of an expert be affected by the ability to bet $12 on the river in this specific game? How much would it increase? |

Re: the rake
Might as well use this thread since I have a similar question about my local B&M. Just curious about SB vs. BB play when SB-$2, BB-3$ and a rake of $4 (3 rake and 1 jackpot), do the majority of hands become unplayable from the SB?

Re: the rake
If the SB is higher than 1/2 the BB, wouldn't that actually make more hands in the SB playable?
