Default Your childhood sports idol

When we were all kids, most of us had a sports figure that we looked up to or even idolized. Even if they weren't the greatest player on the team or greatest in their sport, we still admired them.

Who was that player for you guys?

For me, it was definitely Mark Messier. Since the strike, I'm no longer a hockey fan. But I was a rabid New York Rangers fan when I was a child up until I was around 18 and he was the heart of the team.

Larry Bird. Goofy looking white guy (I could relate) that was among the elite players in the league.

Drew/Colt,

A few weeks ago i went to the Jim Thorpe awards. I got to meet and chat with Mack, Duane Akina, Michael Huff and Aaron Ross. I was like a kid in a candy store but my biggest thrill of the evening was having the winning bid on a Texas helmet signed by Earl.

Joe Montana. When I was a kid I used to dream about being Joe - literally. My actual dreams at night consisted of me throwing the ball to 49er wide receivers.

I still miss Joe. Nothing was more fun than watching him shred defenses.

#1 overall for me, in any sport. When LT was on, he could do anything.

Almost the antithesis to the wild-ass LT, Bulldog Hershiser was a choir boy who sang hymns in the dugout...and broke hitters off with that sinker. Watching his streak and his pitching in the 1988 WS was a joy.

John Starks would go up against anybody and shoot from anywhere. It broke my heart watching him in the finals against the Rockets, especially in game seven when he went ice cold from the floor.
