Default Should I check this turn?

I almost went on tilt after getting check raised, because I was strongly thinking about checking the turn and calling or folding the river unimproved. I bet, thinking that AK might be the best hand anyway and a free card could be dangerous. Well, I should have checked, because I could have had as many as 6 outs (or be drawing dead). No real reads, but SB seemed a little loose-semiaggressive.

What to do here with UI AK HU on turn when checked to?

a) bet and fold to a raise
b) bet and call a raise
c) check and fold the river UI
d) check and call any river

In b) you are hoping to have 6 outs, or hope that SB is just making a play on you, of course he could have a T and you'd be drawing dead. In d) AK could be the best hand if he bluffs the river.

Tonight I got twice check-raised on a paired board. The 2nd time I had something like TT on a 8-8-5 board, bet the turn and got raised and paid him off his 8. 3rd time I didn't want to do the same mistake and checked behind KK on a 3-3-4 board, well, this time the villain had A2, A fell on the river, he bet and I called and paid him off his free card draw. Maybe I should just always check behind when there is a pair on board, because I always make the wrong selection.

Well in this AK hand I probably would have lost the same 1 big bet on the river had I checked the turn and called the river, or even more if A/K would have come and I would have raised.

with the board i would check. i can't see him holding anything other than a pair of fives, a set, or a flush draw. unless you have a read that he is ultra defensive in the blinds (and on a non club draw), i would on want to see one bet on the expensive streets. check and call if its a non club on the river.

I thought he could have called the flop with just overcards and/or fd but I guess I just should have checked that board on the turn.
