Default My first Vegas trip... HELP!

Hey all,

Myself and a friend (doesn't play poker or gamble at all) are heading to Vegas in April (~13-16th). It's a short stay on our month long trip to the US but I intend to be playing a ton of poker while im there! I've played 100's of hours of live NL cash games here in Australia and alot more online and consider myself an intermediate player. Down under though each state really only has one casino to choose from, so heading to Vegas is daunting!

Basically I need some advice (your own experinces, links to guides, anything) on:

a) Where to stay (under $200/night or even tighter preferably - we're only students!). Also any places that offer poker rates that we could take advantage of (the Wynn apparently drops the room rate to $199 if you play poker there daily - students with no jobs staying at the Wynn, I like that idea!).

b) Where to play poker. The fishiest games, with decent service, free drinks, poker rates (as above). I'll probably only play $1/2NL as I'm only bringing a bankroll of a $1k or so.

c) Entertainment, cheap shows, free dinners, those sorts of things.

I don't know if this is the right forum, and if not feel free to move the thread, but yeh fire away guys!

the right forum definatly not sure if I can help you as I havent been there for a while. Im going in march and looked into the hotels and found a pretty good site in this forum.
http://www.allvegaspoker.com/poker_rates.php

All of them have a poker room rate of under 200 during weekdays and the Mirage is only 109.

Seeing as how you are travelling so far, I would try to play in as many different rooms as possible the first day or two.

I like that idea, but it means I can't really get into a game, build a stack and dominate a table - i'd have to use more a hit and run strategy. Also means I wouldn't be to take advantage of poker rates...

Thanks for the link Teh1337zor the Wynn is still looking good, the Mirage is good but I don't like the 8 hours/day requirement. I'm sure I will end up playing that much but just in case I'd prefer a 6 hour/day requirement. With that I could then play maybe 1pm-4pm then 10pm-1am and still be able to do stuff with me friend in peak times, like see shows, grab dinner and lunch, go clubbing, etc.

Imperial Palace is the place to stay on a budget.... Cheap rooms centrally located. No need for cabs/rentals.

If you plan on playing limit, just go to the Bellagio. The 4/8 game is very beatable and the room is run very professionally.

If your partner likes shows and doesn't want to gamble, he or she can get tickets. Tix4tonight was a great bargan. We got discounts on Penn and Teller for awesome seats and the seats at Phantom plus the performance was worth double what we paid, easily.

My gf just met me in vegas and doesn't drink or gamble. I played over 10 hours of poker a day on average and she said it was one of her best vacations ever.

He's talking about staying at the Wynn. From Wynn to IP is a long way down. He could stay at Treasure Island or Mirage, still 4 star hotels, as a compromise and not be tied to a poker rate. Easy walk to Wynn, Venetian, and Bellagio.
