James Woods.. Genius or Donkey??
I watched the 3rd Quarter of the PPT on TV and at the shocase table was James Woods.
Background He has a genius IQ. He is the shortstack at the table. Average stack 40k Big Stack about 100k James Woods about 5k. The action is late in the round and is close to making the dinner break. James is dealt AQo in late position. Early postion raises.. MP (rock) goes all in. James Woods.. jokingly says let me give the amateur read of this hand. He gives his read AS IF the cards are turned FACE UP and then folds his AQ! (all in raiser had AK) I think to myself .. man this guy is a super genius. Brag for JW. Then I think back a few hands earlier (I did not see the entire hand so i might be slightly off) James Woods Holds 84o in the BB an early position player limps in with 33 the small blind calls with K2 and Woods checks. The flops comes JT2, check, check, check turn Blank (middle card) check, check, check river 4 check, check, check, There is about 5.5k in the pot 33 says I got a pair... Small blind says how big is your pair and turns over K2 for pair of 2's 33 says I can beat that... Woods MUCKS HIS WINNING HAND! BEAT for JW. Variance James makes it to the Dinner break in the final 40 or so poker professional ahead of 100 other pro's, But he is down to under 2k in his stack. (end of show) |

Re: James Woods.. Genius or Donkey??
James Woods is the biggest Donk on the circuit. I'd put my money on Jennifer Tilly before him.

Re: James Woods.. Genius or Donkey??
What were his pot odds?
Folding AQ to AK is only correct if he was getting bad odds. I'm not sure what the blinds/antes were but it sounds like he might have been getting 3 to 1 on his money, in which case calling would still be correct with AQ vs AK. Considering your opponent may have a hand you fair better against (like JJ) then getting 3 to 1 should be an instacall. I don't remember this hand so his fold very well might have been correct. Long story short, folding AQ to AK isn't always 100% good, it depends on the pot odds. |

Re: James Woods.. Genius or Donkey??
i remember seeing that, it was funny because he was playing so tight folding every hand then he finally gets a decent hand and folds anyway (albeit correctly)
also, the MP who opened the pot was dan harrignton, so his tight image probably weighed on his decision, thinking he might be up against QQ+ |

He's not in the BB, he's in Late Position with no money in the pot. Only way he would be getting 3:1 is if he had significantly less than the amount than MP had. But as a side note, I remember watching the 2003 WSOP in the fall after the tourney and being so amazed when I saw Howard Lederer fold Ace Queen suited preflop (I was probably most mesmerized by the suited aspect back then). I even saw another Asian player fold Ace-King preflop -- both Lederer and the Asian player were beat, so I briefly considered them the two best players in the world. Lol, noob. |

Re: James Woods.. Genius or Donkey??
I thought Lederer was against Paul Darden's A-10?
