Thinking of buying a standalone arcade game for my apartment
What should I buy? I'm strongly in favor of earlier games like Ms Pacman but I can be swayed otherwise.

Re: Thinking of buying a standalone arcade game for my apartment
Ms. Pacman is obviously a pretty solid choice. They make a table-style Ms. Pacman/Galaga combination that would be pretty sweet. Something like Pole Position (or the hard-hitting sequel Pole Position II) would be cool for a while, but would probably get old relatively quickly.
Centipede might be an interesting choice. |

Ms Pacman was all the rage in BBV a few months ago. I would prefer some sort of multi-game, though, like one of those SNK machines with Fatal Fight.

I saw a stand alone that was filled with tons of different games. I'd maybe look into one of those, I don't remember how much more it was than a single game unit but I don't remember it being that much more for the huge variety of games it had.

I've always thought that Street Fighter 2 would be an awesome stand-up to have. I loved that game when I was a kid.

I would be looking into an all-in-one type unit that supports game packs

Q-bert would be pretty sweet. Something like Life Force or Gradius could be good choices, as well.
I think a lot of this depends on how much you're looking to entertain others vs. yourself. Ms. Pacman seems like a good generalist's game that everybody can agree on; there are certainly a lot of other options out there that would be more fun, but appeal to a narrower crowd. |

Konami 12-in-1!
[ QUOTE ] It features 12 classic arcade hits, including Frogger, Green Beret, Blades of Steel, Contra Gyruss, Castlevania, Hyper Sports, Time Pilot '84, Scramble, and Super Basketball. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty sweet. I was also a big fan of Arch Rivals, the basketball game where you can punch the other guy. I also loved its football companion, Pigskin: |
