Turning $1000 into $200,000
I also posted this at p5's, where I am a member as well.
I am going to start playing with a bankroll of $1000 and attempt to turn it into $200k playing cash games, NLH and PLO. The idea originally came about when someone asked Brain Townsend how he would grind out a $1000 roll. He said My blog he could have $200k in 4 weeks and be playing 50/100. Here is what he said: "I look forward to playing against you.I would start with 100NL and play until I had 2K and jump right into 200NL being willing to move back down if I dropped $800. I would then play 200NL until I had 3500 and then I would play 400NL again dropping down if I had a little downswing. I would continue this process all the way to 100/200. I think this is an interesting question, and I feel that with 1000 dollars I could be playing 50/100 NL in 4 weeks with 200K. This would be very ambitous and require alot of poker everyday (probably 3K+ hands a day). But I still think it could be done. ( I don’t knwo if I want to try to prove it tho )" Disclaimer: I am not crazy enough to believe I am anywhere near his level. He is sbrugby, aba, one of the best. I have primarily played tournaments for the last few years, with mixed results. On New Year's Eve, I was lucky enough to chop the Stars Warm-up for $23k (before the 350k guarantee) when I had the chip lead 4 handed. I spent the month of January donating in some higher buy-in MTT's, and lost a chunk of my BR. Now I am putting MTT's aside to focus on cash games. I have played plenty of cash game hands over the years, as high as 5/10nl and 3/6plo, but have never made them my main focus. I plan on buying Poker Tracker and a Cardrunners subscription when I begin this challenge. The next issue is the timeframe. Brian said he thinks he could do it in 4 weeks playing 3000 hands a day, which comes out to 84,000 hands. Since I have a full-time job and a wife, I am not going to put a time deadline on this, but rather see how far I can get over 84,000 hands. I don't think I can get all the way that quick, but I am going to give it my all to see if this can be done. The final thing that I need is support from you guys. I have learned so much since joining this site in November, but haven't communicated much with people. I have mostly been a lurker. I read the site everyday at work. I want to post hand histories, talk strategy, post stats, either through PM's and/or AIM. Please PM me if you are interested or willing to help. I plan to start the challenge tomorrow night playing $100NL. I will also be writing a blog dedicated to this challenge. http://tmoney120.blogspot.com Thomas |

Not to be a jerk, but there is no way you could succeed. I also do not think aba could do this, but I can't put up a large enough prop bet to make it worth it for him to miss out on his normal high-stakes action.

Re: Turning $1000 into $200,000
Honestly, this just sounds like you want 200,000 and see this as a way to get a little more motivation.

Re: Turning $1000 into $200,000
aba couldnt come close to doing this imo.
and you say you play tournies and not a cash game pro? that makes it harder, not having PT already and needing to get CR? not to sound like an ass but i think you will have a snowballs chance in hell, but im willing to help you out on aim if you want. 200k in a month is insane, especially starting with 1k. |
