Default A question re openlimping small pockets

I hate to openlimp as a general rule, but I have found that lately when I raise with a small to medium PP, the games have become so aggressive that I am often blown off these hands by a large RR.

Now I have begun to 50/50 limp/raise my small-ish PPs (with the occassional RR). They are the kinds of hands I definitely want to play for one 3-4BB raise, but not a 8-10BB RR, and I am finding limping with them about half the time is letting me see a lot more flops for one raise, hit my sets, and cash in.

Any thoughts on this?

Are you just limping and then c/f if you don't hit a set? Because that is a terrible losing play.

In tougher games I'll fold 22-66 in EP sometimes, but limp/calling is oh-so-bad.

Of course not. I play them as the board and opponent dictates.

I'd like to know why you think, without any further explanation, why limp-calling is so bad.

No that thread, if I recall, address limping in general. That is not what I am referring to, and not what my question is about.

limping with just small pairs sucks for balancing reasons, any decent player is going to catch on pretty quickly if your range is that small, to fix this youd have to limp some sc's suited aces and even big pairs and aces sometimes so you could LRR.

Open limping small pockets is terrible. Open limping anything is terrible. For all the reasons in the other thread and more: zero balance, zero pot building when you hit your set, zero c-bets to take down pots, image, etc.

FeltBelt -

I hear what you're saying. I get frustrated when I get 3bet off my pockets on a frequent basis. The other day the guy to my left was coming over the top of me all the time. When I was in the CO, the guys in the blinds were loose. A couple times I went to 4 preflop with like 66, button went to like 14, and the blinds and me folded. I tried open limping a pair, button went to 4, blinds both called, and I was able to call getting the big pot multiway situation I was looking for (I didn't set up, but I felt good about the situation). In specific situations like this I think there is a case to be made for open limping - but I have a feeling most will disagree. Anyways my two cents.
