Live tourney approaching the bubble.. Should I be pushing???
This was my first time in the Foxwoods 200+30 tourney on Friday afternoons. 5000 in starting chips, 20 min levels and blinds/antes get big fast.
There were 140 or so runners and top 20 places get paid, 400+ for 20th-11th, 8k or for first. We are down to the final 3 tables after 3 1/2 hours of play. I have a 25k stack and get moved to a new table and come in after the button. Blinds were 1k/2k 200a. Folded the first few garbage hands I saw to EP raises. Then get I folded A5s in MP with 12 BBs. Button raised, BB pushed and Button called. 33 vs JJ.. JJ holds but I would've tripled up. Next hand I pushed ATx first in and picked up the pot from MP. New level 1k/2k 300a. I still have 22k and get A9s in the BB. There is an allin from an EP Short stack with 7500 in chips. Some confusion ensues when MP trys to "make it 8000". This isn't a legal raise. I make a case for it being a call, the dealer and the "table" dissagree and believe his intent was to raise. So he makes it 15k. Folded to me and I think hard about pushing but I will definitely get a call and don't think I am ahead of his now RR. So I fold. Of course had I pushed I would've been up against Q7x from the shorty and AKx from the raiser. My flush would've come in and I would've had a stack to play with. Instead all it does it put me on tilt. The next hand it is folded to me in the SB and I raise with Q6x on a steal and BB calls allin with A7x hits 2 pair. We are on a break and I am officially crippled with only 8k left and when we return from the break its 1500/3000 500a. First hand folded to me on the button with 76s. BB and SB actually fold to my push and I add some chips to my stack. 2 hands later folded to me in LP and I push 2 cards first in. BB thinks and calls with A9x and my J7s falls putting me out in 24th. |

Re: Live tourney approaching the bubble.. Should I be pushing???
Not really sure what your question is. Sounds a lot like a long bad beat story to be honest. Raising with q6o was a bad move. you were prob tilting. You should have raised all in if raising at all.

Re: Live tourney approaching the bubble.. Should I be pushing???
Sorry for my lack of clarity.
Let me see if I can better break out the hands. 1) In MP holding A5s, 25k stack, 1k/2k 200 ante PUSH or FOLD 2) In EP holding ATx, 25k stack, 1k/2k 200 ante PUSH or FOLD 3) BB Holding A9s, 22k stack, 1k/2k 300 ante CALL 13k into a ~30k POT over a Raise allin and a ReRaise, PUSH or FOLD. 4) SB Holding Q6x, 20k stack, BB has 10k, Blinds 1k/2k 300a RAISE, PUSH, or FOLD 5) Button 76s, 8k stack, Blinds 1.5k/3k, 500a, PUSH or FOLD first in 6) LP J7s, 16k stack, Blinds 1.5k/3k, 500a, PUSH or FOLD Whew.... Didn't mean to sound like a BB post. I just was angry with myself if I didn't make the correct pushing decisions both ways. Not pushing hands I should've been and then pushing hands I had no business playing. Thanks |

Re: Live tourney approaching the bubble.. Should I be pushing???
1. Don't push, but you could raise small, limp, or fold.
2. Same as above. 3. Fold! 4. Push 5. Push 6. Push |

Re: Live tourney approaching the bubble.. Should I be pushing???
1) Easy Fold. Pushing with Ax is not good since you will be often dominated when called.
2) Easy Fold. See above (your x is better but you're in earlier position, so still fold) 3) Easy Easy fold. Way too much action for your A9 to be any good here. 4) Push. Q7 likely to not be in bad shape if called. Picking up blinds and antes is very valuable here. Villain has to risk life to call. 5) Easy push. You have less than 3BB and a hand that has decent equity against any calling hand. 6) Push. You're getting called lightly here, but you're M is very small that you can't wait for a great hand. You need to double up really soon. Also, being suited adds some value. |

Re: Live tourney approaching the bubble.. Should I be pushing???
Regarding the q6 steal...I say be more short-stack conscious. You want to steal from medium stacks, not from people who have crippled stacks and have hardly anything to lose. Plus, you have to show your hand...which kills your table image.
Very results oriented too lol. |
