Default \"Looking Like a Winner\"

The Fashion of Poker

I read this on AVP over the weekend. I kind of waited for a bit to see if it would pop-up somewhere on this forum or others, it may have been brought up before, I'm not sure.

Is having a fashion sense that important when playing cards?

Mason Malmuth years ago wrote essays urging players to dress neatly to keep the overall atmosphere of a room inviting to new players.

This is snootier, but the overall message is the same.

And what's up with calling herself McFox? Really?

Fashion sense should take a back set to hygiene.

And a word to all you youngsters, the Mellow jersey is cool but lose the half cocked ball caps and gangster wear, it scares the fish.

Best of Luck

It makes the mind do a little twisting kind of dive into insanity that she would recommend that the solution to the proliferation of ballcaps is more people wearing sunglasses

As a person who has to look at other people, how has this escaped Ms. Foxy Fox's notice? I guess having probably spent 2 hours in poker rooms lifetime, she's not familliar with the sunglasse's attending douchebaggery quotient as well.

Also, "Imagine that even though you are at the $1/$2 tables, you may be treated any moment like a high roller and comped dinner at one of the nice restaurants." Really, why should I imagine that? Is it going to happen? What if I clap my hands, close my eyes tight, and wish very very hard?

I wonder if you click your heels three times you'll get a comped room?

I reserve the right not to comment because her article was a complete self promoting joke.

Yea....it was pretty self serving and obvious that she doesn't hang in many casino's.....but

I do think that you get treated better if you at least look somewhat decent and don't smell. I'm just saying, put on a decent shirt and occasionally go back up to the room and brush your teeth and use some deodorant. You don't have to dress like Sammy Farhah. I could care less about ball caps and sunglasses. It's not my style. I love sitting at a table of 25 year old WSOP Television wannabees.

My thoughts exactly. I was expecting a normally good read on AVP, then after read the entire article after choking on my coffee, you get down to the very end and this self advertising thing that reads:

"Meredeth McSointomyself is a personal image consultant with Nouveau Image in the Pacific Northwest. www.nouveauwhatsimage.com"

Give me a break. I'm a tourist when I'm come to Vegas, I'm going to dress like myself. If I look like a tourist when I'm there, then so be it. I want to have fun and dress comfortably while I'm there. I don't see too many people in late July or early August in Vegas worrying if their pants and shirt are ironed. I don't care what anyone wears at the table. If they want to wear a crooked ball cap, sun glasses, baggy pants, etc. then more power to them. To me, it looks kind of silly, my kids used to wear stuff like that.

Anyhow, dress as comfortable as you feel. McSointomyself can promote her crap in the pacific northwest where, if I'm not mistaken, it rains a hell of alot and people wear totally different things than people in other climates.

TT - I understand you're dressing down lately? What's up with that?
