Is there any information elsewhere about how he died?

This is horrible. We have 2 threads of wrestlers passing on this page alone on 2+2. Bam Bam and now Mike Awesome .
Most of my favourite stars growing up are now dead.

Dave Meltzer is reporting that former ECW World Champion Mike Awesome (real name Michael Alfonso) has passed away. He was found dead on Saturday evening in the Tampa area according to those close to the family. He was only 42 years old.

At about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night, friends were going to his home in Tampa, Florida to pick him up and go out. He never answered the door and they found him hanging in the home. The death is believed to be due to suicide pending results of the autopsy.

Also, WWE.com has confirmed his passing:

He had the perfect look, gimmick, name and even some mic skills, but his in ring abilities were limited. If he even had medium in ring skills i think he would have been a major star.

hey I read it was suicide, possibly from depression stemming from all the concussions he's taken over his career.

Mike Awesome had some great in ring skills. Watch some of his old ECW matches and some of his Japan work. WCW and WWE never utilized what he could do. He and Masato Tanaka had one of the greatest (although shortest) fueds of all time. The matches they put on were brutal.

For realz, watch the Taz/Tanaka/Awesome match from the first ECW Anarchy Rulz PPV, Taz was eliminated within the first 3 minutes but I remember saying to a friend that it may have been the best match I ever saw.
