Unknown User Account on Home Computer
This may be nothing but I'd figure I'd post on here to double check. When I go to 'control panel' and then 'user accounts' on my home pc I notice that there are two accounts. One is for myself, which I obvbiously recognize, and the other is titled "ASP.NET Machine A..." and is defined as a limited account and is password protected. This is the one I don't recognize. I am the only one that uses this computer so I find it strange that there is an account on it that I have never noticed before. Is this something to be concerned with? All the talk of hacking poker accounts lately has me a little worried. I run Windows XP Home if it matters.

Re: Unknown User Account on Home Computer
It's standard to have this created with the .net framework.

Re: Unknown User Account on Home Computer
Snafu'd,
Any PC with Windows XP can be used as a Web-server. There is a technology from Microsoft that is called ASP.NET and is used to create dynamic Web-pages. This account is used to run those ASP.NET pages. Presence of this account should not bother you, but if it makes you feel more safe, you can disable it. It will not affect your system, except a very unlikely case you host/develop a Web-application on your computer . |

[/ QUOTE ] You are close -- but no cigar. #1 - Any computer period can be used as a web server. The micrsoft web server (IIS) only comes with XP Pro though. #2 - .Net is a technology for all sorts of development, not just web pages. In fact, a lot of big-name games are developed using .Net technology. |
