Default if there was no money involved would you still play poker online?

Assume that people would still play their best game (it wouldn't play like the play money games).

I was a total junkie on the internet chess club (ICC) playing mostly 1 and 3 minute chess in my pre-poker days.

i was a poor student. therefore it was all FICS for me. i am threeonefour on there.. i played recently, my blitz rating has plummeted to 1600something. once upon a time i was 1900. which at the time was about ~2100 on ICC i believe.

you would have kicked my ass.

I was around 1600-1700 on 1 minute and 3 minute on ICC.

This was a 2-4 yrs ago though. Rating inflation may have changed some in that time.

I don't play chess anymore because it's not profitable for me.

If I ever get fully financially comfortable (from poker...or anything else) I will likely take up chess again.
But I feel it's a waste of my hobby/gaming time to play chess when I SHOULD be playing poker and making some income.

If I got to $100k/yr which I believe is what I SHOULD be doing if I was a better (and more disciplined and motivated) player then I would find some spare-time for chess most certainly.

the idea of travelling to Vegas or Foxwoods for one of their big chess tournaments and turning it into a chess/poker trip is appealing to me.

But after back to back grueling 5-hour+ chess matches on a given-day and then trying to play some poker in that week as well I suspect my head might explode.

Anyway - this is a bit of a hijack.

I played plenty of chess for free back in the day.
But I wouldn't play poker for free.

Which probably indicates how much I truly 'love' poker (meaning 'not as much' as some on here).
It's a reasonable way to make a living. but if I didn't have to rely on it for income I might only play some of the big, live tournaments and might barely bother with paying online at all.
