Haha...just got my end of year bonus~

And today is my last day. Had a fallout with my boss, and was wondering if he would give me the bonus. Bonus was a little more than half of my monthly salary.

5 hours to go thus I'm just cruising around net...desk is empty...people only dare to talk to me when the boss is out of ear shot...

Share your end of year bonus stories and what not~

My boss gave me a 5% pay increase for the year for no reason, and after being very straight forward about there not being pay raises available when I was hired a year ago since I work on a government grant, and he also gave it to me even though I write horrible run on sentences.

Crappy $100 gift card, like the last 7 years.

...With a note in the same envelope that the company is switching payroll from 2x monthly to bi-weekly, and in the process, withholding 1 weeks' pay at the start of January (there was nothing held back when I was first hired).

So basically, in the short run at least, about a -$800 bonus. Thanks boss!

But hey, no biggie...had a decent poker month in December, so I'll just withdraw a little more in the middle of January. Guess how that worked out for me.

Mine did a similar deal last year. There was a huge backlash and they tried to convince us we weren't getting shorted. "Are you losing out on a week's pay? No. Click this link to see a chart explaining that you'll get your full pay." Chart shows 25 paychecks in 2006 plus one in 2007. Uhhhh, yeah thanks for clearing that up.

only time i ever got a bonus was when I worked at dairy queen when I was 15ish. I waited till i got my christmas bonus then I never went back.

Of course the idea is that I'll now get paid an extra week when I leave the company, which is something I've wanted to make happen for a while anyway. Basically it's a nice sneaky way for the company to float a few hundred grand.

About 2 years ago I left a job as a programmer/systems guy at an online learning firm.

I sent a detailed email to my boss that I was leaving to play poker 2 weeks earlier - we had a reasonable rapport and I didn't want to burn any bridges - I'm a realist and understand the nature of money in poker.

He came to my desk at the end of my 2 weeks, final hour there... infront of the whole office he said loudly/seriously "you'll be back in 6months."

I hadn't really thought about it till I read this, not a bad feeling.
