Default New England skiiers rejoice

this storm may have left my parking lot with a solid 6 inches of life-threating uneven ice, but it also left this:

5 feet (!!) of snow at Jay Peak
3-4 feet at Stowe

operations are largely shut down today b/c of high winds. I'm calling in sick tomorrow...holla at a once every 4 year ski day.

anybody else?

PS please nobody tell my boss

we sure do!

in fact Stowe and Jay tomorrow will be as good as any resort in America.

Jay Peak and Stowe season snowfall: 197 inches

Squaw: 174
Vail: 191
Alta: 213

neither Stowe nor Jay have 30 foot cliffs or miles of bowls, but both have tree skiing that is 95% as nasty as anything you can find at Alta or around Tahoe. that is, if you know where to look.

btw, does anyone know how hard (in mph) the wind needs to be blowing for lifts to shut down down?

only 4 lifts open at Stowe today, with 14 mph winds.

tomorrow forecast 9-14 mph...not so good?

i grew up in central VA, and my ski and snowboard team used to ski down dinky little hills of a mountain. for spring break each year, we went to stowe. it's like driving a Geo Metro all year and for a week you get to drive a Lambo. that place is so sweet.
