I hate to mostly just post a newspaper article, but this was too good to pass up.
[ QUOTE ] The Unicef team assessed the treatment of children in six different areas - material wellbeing; health and safety; educational wellbeing, family and peer relationships, behaviours and risks; and the young people's own perceptions of their wellbeing. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The Netherlands tops of the league, followed by Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Spain. The bottom five are Portugal, Austria, Hungary, the US and the UK. [/ QUOTE ] 4 u haterz: [ QUOTE ] eat together more than once a week...France at the very top end. [/ QUOTE ] How can you dismiss this as they hate America? Link fixed A quick search of the UNICEF website does not turn up the report, i'll update if i find it. |

And I should give a damn why? Putting aside the inherent stupidity of countrywide comparisons (Let's lump Juneau, NYC, and Podunk into one basket), my primary concern is for my own safety and wellbeing. When I have children, I'll raise them well, provide for them, make sure they go to good schools, etc. Why should I care if children 2000 miles away are smoking dope or not eating dinner with their parents?

I wonder if anyone has ever studied the economic freedom potential for children? What country offers the greatest chance for low born children of average intelligence to reach the top income quintile? I have a guess.

The US is the richest, most powerful nation in the world. Why aren't kiddies getting any love? It doesn't have to be this way, but it is.
I love the Netherlands being #1 since Bill O'Reilly dismisses it as a land of heroin addicts. Maybe they know something the power structures in the US don't want its citizenry to know. |
