Default 40/80 river vs. an excellent player

commerce 40
villain he is for gambooool and paying lower than he typically does so that we can drink the beer and BS. he is an exceptional player.

he raises utg, 2 monkies coldcall, sb calls, i call in the BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

flop 5 ways: T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
checks around.

turn: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
check, i bet, villain now raises, folds to me and i 3bet, he calls.

river HU: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I think the 3 bet is marginal. I bet the river, fold to a raise, just because check calling potentially looses bets to lower pairs that your 3bet turn anticipates.

I like check-call as well. Villain will never pay you off with a worse hand if you bet. What's he going to call with, AsQx that missed? After you 3-bet the turn? And clearly he's never folding a K.

The only hands that beat you would have bet the flop. His flop check means overcards almost all the time. So either he has AK or AQ or KQ or AJs. Check and see if he fires the river. If he does, the pot's big enough to make a crying call and see his K or catch him in a hopeless bluff that AsQx made -- though that's so unlikely I almost find myself thinking check-fold.

Anyway, most of the time the action will go check-check on this river. You'll say "two nines" and he'll say "OMG don't post this hand" and muck face down.

I seriously doubt betting has any value and I doubt he would be silly enough to bluff but maybe so I check/call but think that check folding is possibly the best line.

is he really never folding AK here to a check raise? cause that would be kind of hot.

indeed!

villian has no choice but to raise in most spots and increases our chances of winning pot by wide margin.
