Default Defending Duke

The post I never expected to make. (FYI-I'm a Duke hater due to class warfare.) The recency effect is ridiculous and to not have Duke a top 25 team is beyond appalling. Voters need to be held to task. I understand tey will be somewhat knocked for performing bad of late, but to disregard their whole season resume is ridiculous.

Here goes--

The Duke notable wins (KenPom, Sagarin, rpi)
1. Air Force--nuetral (21, 23, 15)
2. Indiana--home (12, 17, 17)
3. Georgetown--home (8, 15, 26)
4. Gonzaga--nuetral (50, 45, 57)
5. Clemson--home (17, 13, 21)
6. Boston College--home (38, 21, 19)

The losses:
1. Marquette--nuetral (29, 26, 22)
2. Virginia Tech--home (26, 28, 34)
3. Georgia Tech--away (16, 24, 56)
4. Virginia--away (49, 32, 35)
5. Florida State--home (36, 31, 29)
6. North Carolina--home (1, 1, 2)
7. Maryland--away (19, 25, 33)

what you've seen is the Dukies have played a huge schedule. They lack the signature road wins to be a top10 team. However, all of their losses have been to quality teams. They've had no hiccups and handled the bad teams. All in all, you have to think they compare pretty well to other top teams.

Here is to lay it down on how Duke compares against top teams (The following comes from sagarin since it amassed the data for me).

Duke is 5-3 against the top25.
Here are the other teams with 4 or more wins verse the top25.
UNC 6-0
V Tech 4-2
Virginia 5-2
UCLA 6-1
Oregon 4-2

that's it.

How is Duke not top25???
ridiculous

The year that Stanford and St. Joe's were undefeated and at the top of the rankings, did anyone actually think they were the two best teams?

Obviously these rankings don't factor in strength of schedule or closeness of games nearly as much as they should.

They're also very much a reflection of "what have you done for me lately" 4 losses in a row is going to drop almost any team out of the top 25. Especially one without a really signature win.

exactly, but, supposedly, these are panels of experts voting.
Shouldn't they have to know that Duke has faced a top 10 schedule????

Traditionally, Duke is somewhat overrated, so it's tough to feel too bad. However, this year's team is being punished unnecessarily.

But, they were expected to go 1-3 through that stretch. Should they punished for having a bunch of tough games in a row?

Of course not, I was just trying to explain why they are getting screwed. Not supporting the screw job. Although I would argue with someone who said this is anti-duke bias.

No such thing as unnecessary punishment for Dook.

Its gonna get worse before it gets better. They could easily go like 3-4 the rest of the way.

see the thing about those wins is that they all came at home (i consider madison square garden a home game for dook). ratface cherrypicks his "tough" OOC games every year and plays them at home to increase his odds of winning and his RPI. they are a horrible team that clearly have no business being in the top 25, and the gayness and overall cowardice that their coach displays in creating such a farcical schedule is unconscionable IMHO.

It would be very easy to name 25 teams better than Duke.
