I've seen this term used a few times in 2+2 literature, and I'm a little bit unsure as to what it means. Does it just mean a good read on an opponent, an opponent you can force to become passive by entering the pot, or some other third meaning I haven't divined?

maybe all of the above?
I consider having control over an opponent as beating on someone so frequently that they reach a point where they never know if their hand is good against you and therefore let you control all the action. |

Being in control of the action. Basically what Nickerbocker said. When you're in control of an opponent they won't lead out against you very often because they're scared almost. Generally happens when they try and steal your blinds for instance and you play back at them, they know not to mess around with you.
