Default NHL Trade Deadline, rumours, etc.

just looking for some thoughts other ppl here have with regards to the upcoming trade deadline and trades that you'd like to see or think will happen.

i'm a montreal and vancouver fan so obviously i'd like to see them make some nice acquisitions.

montreal is in serious need of a performer. they haven't had a superstar there in a long time. their leading scorer is a defenceman, and he isn't even in the top 50 in league scoring. when your team doesn't have one single player in the top 50 in league scoring you know there's offensive trouble.

rumors have it montreal is interested in forsberg and he would also wave his no trade clause to come to montreal. i wouldn't risk giving too much for this guy because he'd only be a rental for this year. i'd much prefer getting a star that we could build around for the next couple years. we have tons of young talent to trade away as well, and some cap space to work at.

2 people i'd like to see them acquire would be Olli Jokinen and Nathan Horton from Florida. I'd trade anyone on our roster for these guys, including Captain Koivu. he just isn't putting up numbers that a #1 centre and captain should be.

Bertuzzi could also look good in a habs uniform, but he is streaky. if he was consistent i'd love to get him.

I'll write about my Vancouver thoughts later.

For now, I'd like to see the Habs as sellers before February 27. We play really really bad since the end of December, our goaltending is nonexistant right now and most of our big players play like crap. I doubt we have any chances of going further than the second round of the playoffs, if we ever make them.

We have a good core of young players on which we can build the future. Higgins, Komisarek, Latendresse, Price, Chipchura should all become good players in this league. If we can get rid of Aebischer, Rivet and Souray at the deadline (three UFAs; Rivet plays like crap and Souray should fetch us a couple of good prospects/draft picks), this would be great for our future.

My thoughts aren't really clear right now, I'll post more later.

As a LA Kings fan, I'm prepared to see anyone except Kopitar or Frolov moved. The nice thing about being completely out of it is that there are no illusions. If we're not going to win the Cup, just sell what we can.

Sabres are up against the cap if Tim Connolly who is projected to come back in 5-7 weeks stays on the roster.

They just lost Paul Gaustad to a lacerated tendon when he got cut with a skate so they are definitely in the mix for a gritty veteran forward. They were already interested in and even more so now considering the only regular (besides maybe Adam Mair) who is real physical is done for the year.

ALso, even though they have the best record in the league, the have been spotty on the back end. Teppo Numminen is old and since they cant have 7 defensemen healthy for more than a game he doesn't get a rest.

Dimitri Kalinin is inconsistent at best but has all the potential in the world. He played is best game in months against the Flames Saturday.

Campbell has fallen off ever since before the all-star break. Those 30 minute nights he was logging with Tallinder out might have hurt him in the long run.

Spacek is hurt again, at least 3 weeks with a broken hand.

And we all know what happened last year against Carolina, where they had to go to their 11 th defensemen.

Sooo... I think the Sabres will try to add some defense depth if possible, Aaron Miller has been talked about but he always comes up since hes a Buffalo native.

I think they will try to find a replacement for Guastad but that wont be easy. They may end up going with AHL call-ups and roll the dice on Connolly coming back, which is fine by me.

Soooo in a very long winded way I basically said the Sabres will probably do nothing unless they move their back-up goalie, Martin Biron, who makes > 2 million a year and replace him with another backup and bring in either A - defensive depth or B - a gritty veteran forward.

Ladislav Nagy to the Stars for Mathias Tjarnqvist and a first round pick. I guess after their nice little comeback the Yotes have finally given up. I guess this helps Dallas a bit with Morrow on IR, but I don't see the Stars making too much noise in the playoffs, especially with the goal tending issues they've been having.

I'm interested to see how long it takes the Islanders to give up even though they are only 3 points out of the final playoff spot. The injuries are killing them, but I don't really see any players they would move. Maybe Blake if they got a good enough offer, but I don't see it.

Ducks need a scoring winger, particularly a LW. Nagy would have been perfect, but the price was way too high for the Ducks who don't have a 1st rounder for a couple years (or a 2nd rounder for that matter).

The Ducks have plenty of cap room, but I'm just not sure if they have the assets to get a decent scorer without giving up some of their biggest prospects. Brian Burke is a genius though. He'll figure something out.

I heard a rumour that Gary Roberts might be coming to Ottawa. Florida's asking price is a bit too high right now, but it might come down if they get no takers closer to the deadline.

The thinking is that the Sens need a veteran guy to play on the 3rd or 4th line to lead them (in the dressing room) through the playoffs. They've never really had that.

I highly doubt Florida would trade either Jokinen or Horton.
