Re: Mini set facing turn aggression
Instant 3-bet.
Why? - He doesn't have QQ because he didn't raise preflop. - He probably doesn't have 77 because he coldcalled a Q-high flop. - The only likely better hand is 55, and there are many more Q5/Q7/75 hand combos. - There are no straight or flush possibilities. - MP1 is donating so you're getting 2:1 on your 3-bet usually. |

Re: Mini set facing turn aggression
Yeah of course but is really Q5, Q7 or 75 very likely from UTG. Do we default to thinking that UTG is a total fish if we never saw him before?

Re: Mini set facing turn aggression
It's likely enough, and yes I'd assume the typical unknown player at 0.25/0.50 limps way too many hands UTG.
Big deal this time he had 55 or 77. I know you 3-bet and it was a good decision. Sometimes you lose hands and there's nothing you can do about it. |

Re: Mini set facing turn aggression
Well...*hanging my head in shame* I called and raised him on the river. Same difference, he had 55. The reason I was posting it was because it seems that this "c/c flop, c/r turn" always seems to be a set made on the flop and I've been thinking lately that i don't give that very typical line enough credit and waste some bets because of it.

Re: Mini set facing turn aggression
You need to get your raises in when other players will keep coming along. So the moral of this hand post was not that you lost with your set, but that you played backwards on the turn and river.

Re: Mini set facing turn aggression
Well I think the preflop call was questionable. I think its not profitable at .50/1.00 (thats where I play) to call 2 w/ 22 from any position preflop. I think fold>raise>call in this situation.

[ QUOTE ]
fold>raise>call [/ QUOTE ] Well this is definitely not the way it goes. It's between call and fold, and I think it's a call at 0.25/0.50 with a limper, one raiser, one coldcaller, and three other players to act. 3-betting here would be really bad. |
