Default Last King of Scotland

Watched it last night.
I thought the movie was good but not great. Forest Whitaker's job is excellent.
The interactions between Amin and the doctor are interesting, but not much else of the movie striked me as being specially good.

I'm thinking of seeing it this weekend...I was always amazed that Whitaker had never been nominated before, especially for films like Bird and The Crying Game.

I enjoyed it (and predict Dom will enjoy it a lot). I thought the acting overall was quite good. What held it back from being great, perhaps, was elements of the story. I won't elaborate about that yet, though.

I agree that Whitaker is underappreciated. Perhaps his size and somewhat unusual appearance limits his roles. But he always seems to embody the characters fully, and very memorably.

I really liked this movie. Whitaker was absolutely fantastic and deserves every bit of award attention he has been getting.

Also nice to see Gillian Anderson(Agent Scully) back on the map.

From the few responses, it sounds like other people really liked this film.
It just didn't click with me.
Although I agree that Whitaker does a superb job.

I haven't seen "The Bird" or "The Crying Game". I guess I should look into that.

Just saw it this afternoon. My friend and I thought it was fascinating, with Whitaker doing an inspired acting job. I'm surprised the responses so far have been lukewarm.

I thought it was very good as well. I really like Forest Whitaker. The doctor wasn't a very sympathetic protagonist, not a whole lot of growth in character, but I found it interesting.

Without doing any reading or research on Amin or the movie my guess is the Doctor was sort of a fictionalized character that allowed us to get a closer look at Amin. The approach worked for me.

Yes, that's it exactly, the doctor character is a fictional trope. Still, he was the main character- and a little realization of what a shallow cad he really is would have made him come off a little better.

EDIT: Also- how much insight do you think this movie gave you on Amin- does it really help you understand him? I got that he was dirt poor, made by the British Army, but really nucking futs the whole way through.... was there that much being said by this film about what made him tick?
