Default 50NL 6 max, mono flop against a regular

Villian has $47 I cover. His stats (vpip/preflop raise): 23/10, my stats 14/6. Villian is a quad-tabling regular. Not great but not bad.

5 people. I limp utg with 88, cutoff and button folds. Villian (SB) completes, BB checks.

Flop comes 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (pot: $1.50)

sb checks, bb checks, I bet pot, sb calls, bb folds.

Turn: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (pot: $4.50)

villian checks, I bet $3, he calls again.

River: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (pot: $10.50)

villian bets out $10, I?

I am not that worried about a flopped flush or a set, he would play that faster. Also he should not have a 9 in his hand for running 9s or an overpair, so my two pair should be good or am I wrong? Is this a call or not, that is the question.

Some people might argue that I should have raised preflop, but I usually do not do that, atleast not early pos.

raise preflop.

you want to make the potsize on the flop larger so you can get your stack in the middle on the occasions you flop a set. Sets play well from any position. Also a flop bet CB will get some respect coming from an EP tight player so you can steal the pot on a lot of flops if you raise preflop as well.

I think river is a call - he check called twice and then pots the river vs a nit (if he's a "not bad reg" he ought to have noticed how tight you are) However he might well have put you on a draw and thinks he can steal - I think it's pretty close tbh so it doesn't matter much what you do. I'd lean slightly towards calling so I can take a note on this line but I'd expect to get shown some garbage with a 9 in it a chunk of the time.

Fold. You've shown strength on two streets and now villain just bets out on the river. This is never a bluff.

Now lets say that BB would have played it the same way. His stats is 68/13, with a $50 stack. How would you play it?
