Default Gastric bypass anyone?

Anyone here had gastric bypass and wanna tell me about what they think about it. Was it sucessful, how much did they lose, did you regret doing it and so on. Several of the "tv pro poker players" had it and I am thinking about having it too.

After initially more interested in gastric bypass, I'm leaning towards lap-banding as an alternative although I'm still doing research.

A friend of mine had it and went from something like 275 to around 100 lbs. She was delighted with the results at first but has suffered more and more illness and complications as a result of the surgery. I think she's been through so much crap by now that she probably would not do it again if she had to go back and make the choice all over. Although as I understand it, having as many issues as she has is pretty rare.

My mother just had it about a week ago. Obviously I can't say anything about how effective it is yet, but she's not complaining about any discomfort or about being hungry.

My wife had it about 10 months ago and it has really made a difference for her. She was overweight to begin with, but really added weight after she became diabetic a few years ago and the insulin really screwed up her weight (for the worse).

The surgery went pretty well, although the first 3-4 weeks after the surgery are tough. Right now she has dropped from 290 to about 200, and is doing well. She has some minor stomach issues on occasion and may have to have hernia surgery (a fairly common side effect). Overall, she is EXTREMELY happy with how it has worked out thus far.
