Default Costa Rica Recommendations

Mrs. Colgin and I are going to Costa Rica in late Feb. through early March. We plan to spend 3 days in Arenal, 3 days in Monteverde and 5 days on the beach in Tamarindo in the Guancaste region.

Any recommendations for activities, places to eat, or lodging is appreciated. We have our arrangements (tentatively) for Arenal and Monteverde but are still open on where we will be staying in Tamarindo.

Thanks.

I highly recomend Hotel Punta Islita. I went there on my honeymoon, and have returned twice. It is in the Guanacaste region so you should be able to stop there for at least a few of your beach days.

The Hotel is actually a series of private little "casitas" set on the side of hill leading down to the ocean. The property used to be a mango plantation, and there are flowers everywhere (like most of CR). I can not explain the level of service that is achieved, but there is a least a 3 to 1 staff to guest ratio, and I would estimate at capacity no more that 100 guests. The food is excellent, and if you are looking for reefer ask Manuel at the bar.

I could blather on forever about this place, but just peruse the website, you'll get the idea.

Punta islita was on our list but we nixed it because of the price. However, I am thinking we should reconsider. Thx for the recommendation.

Spend more time on the beaches. You'll be happy you did. One day for a hike in the rain forest, one for a dip in the hot springs, one for a hike by the volcano, one for a boat trip/canopy tour should be pently. Also, keep the number of days in the mini-bus to the minimum. that's why they call it a "mini-bus" after all.
