Is it true that online poker is, and always has been, illegal in Canada? Also, I researched this today, and apparently all gambling income is taxable if you're a professional. Have any Canadians had issues with this?
"If you make a living playing cards, you are considered by the Canadian government to having a profession, and your winnings are taxable. If you 'apply skill and investment to achieve a profit', you should be paying taxes. As quoted from the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency: 'Winnings derived from a dedicated approach to gambling is taxable income'." http://www.pokereh.com/legal/taxes.html http://www.pokernews.com/news/2005/0...-poker-ads.htm http://www.gaminglawmasters.com/juri...et_canada.html |

Search this forum for countless other threads where this issue has been discussed. Those articles you've linked to are all very outdated.

Poker is always legal in canada... if you are a professional yes you have to pay taxes. IF its a "hobby" rather than a profession then you don't have to pay taxes. It seems like a complicated issue where you would want to hire a specialized accountant
