AC poker tournament for beginners
I'm going to AC Feb 20-23rd w/ my girlfriend. She's not a bad online/homegame player but hasn't ever played in a casino. She wants to try a small tournament and maybe move to a ring game if she feels confident enough. We're staying at the Borgata but I've heard that might not be the best place for her to start. Plus, I think all their tournaments have add ons and she's looking for something cheaper. Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: AC poker tournament for beginners
As of early January, the Hilton had 50+0 tournaments, I think on Wednesdays. It's a new room and I don't think they do a very good job of running tournaments or tables - though perhaps they've improved since - but that seems to fit the bill. Low cost, pretty small (probably less than 50) tournament.

Showboat has 53+12 tournaments couple of times a day with a comparatively good structure for a live tournament.

Re: AC poker tournament for beginners
78suited.com is a great website for beginners. Especially check out their "Playing Live for the First Time section. The B&M Newbie Guide is also a great source of first timer info. Some of 78suited's tournament information hasn't been updated in a while, but the descriptions of the rooms are decent.
And of course, I personally recommend the Showboat tournaments, just like I do in every other thread. |

Showboat has 53+12 tournaments couple of times a day with a comparatively good structure for a live tournament. [/ QUOTE ] I played this one yesterday. They run at 11AM, 2 PM and then two others later in the day. You start with 10,000 in chips and the blinds are 20 minutes. They start the blinds at 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 400/800, 800/1600, 1000/2000, 1500/3000 I got knocked out at this level so I have no idea what comes next. They typically have about 40 to 60 players and pay the top 10%. |
