2/4 Maximizing river value
This hand is from a while ago, don't recall any strong reads.
Online but I'm gonna just type it out. Guy limps in early position, everyone else folds to me in the SB with 7cTcTxKy, I call, BB checks. Flop is Q85 rainbow, one club. Checks around. Turn is a 9 bringing a 2 flush in the suit I don't have. I bet out 2/3 of the pot as a steal, and to my surprise both players call. River is an offsuit jack, I decide to try to check-raise because I suspect the calls behind me are relatively strong. So I check, BB bets, and limper calls. So my main question is what amount should I check-raise here? Any thoughts? Secondary question would be who calls in the SB and who just chucks this? These days I would just fold this probably. Too tight? And of course if anyone wants to comment on my stab on the turn, feel free. |

Re: 2/4 Maximizing river value
I check raise somewhere between the minimum and the whole pot, probably closer to the whole pot. Depending on stack sizes and reads. I probably just bet though, I don't understand your reasoning why you check. Also I think the turn bet is fine, and I limp this in the SB most of the time.

Re: 2/4 Maximizing river value
Basically I thought someone would bet. It's possible the EV of betting is higher even if someone WILL bet I suppose.

Re: 2/4 Maximizing river value
I don't fold any pair very often in the SB for just a completion.
Your turn bet is iffy because you should expect to get called fairly often; there are a lot of draws and two straights out and unless you have a very good read on your opponents, you will be check-folding a lot when a scare card comes. |
