R rated movies, M rated video games, etc...
For those of you with young children, at what age do you feel it's ok to let your kids see and play whatever movies and video games he wants? How much does the content matter to you? How much research do you do if your child wants to see a potentially violent or sexual movie? Is nudity worse than violence?
I know it all depends on the content of the movie and maturity of the child, but I thought it would be interesting to see a poll for mature content in general |

Uh, depends on the movie/game and the child.

Re: R rated movies, M rated video games, etc...
Depends greatly on the movie. My 8 year old has seen every Lord of the Rings a bunch of times each, the violence is very good vs. Evil, and I have no problem with him seeing it, because we took the time to talk about the movies before and after we saw them, and to explain that acting how you see the movie people do it is not OK.
He however is not even allowed on the same floor of the house when I am playing Grand THeft Auto, or watching something like Law and Order. |

Re: R rated movies, M rated video games, etc...
It mostly depends. If it's a violent game / movie, 13-14 is OK, within limits. The worst of it, they can wait until they're 17.
If it's sex / nudity, then I wouldn't allow it until they're old enough to get it themselves. FWIW, my parents wouldn't let me watch R rated movies until I was 17. I did it anyway, and I suspect most kids will. |

Re: R rated movies, M rated video games, etc...
With what it takes to get to R from PG-13, I'm in the 17 year old camp on that one. If the R rated movie is pre-PG-13 then maybe. Nudity and violence are troubling, but I would place glorifying or depicting drug use as much worse. My daughters will not see something like Boogie Nights in my house, while I might consider Godfather or Alien around 17 (assuming they wanted to see it).
My kids aren't into video games so I really can't answer that one because I haven't played a R or MA rated game. |

[/ QUOTE ] Naw, he's either gone to bed, or he is upstairs playing with something. If he wants to come downstairs, and I am playing "The Naughty Game" as he has so aptly coined it, he hears the shooting and yells something like "Dad, can I come downstairs?" so I can pause it. |

R rated for violence, drug use is far worse than R rated for sex
It's a shame the MPAA can't get this straight |
