Where are the high-% online savings accts for Canadians??
INGDirect Canada's savings rate is a paltry 3.5%
Competitive rates for ING / HSBC / Emigrant in the US seem to be up around 6%. What gives? Any tips for Canucks? p.s. not looking for any sympathy from americans, i know. just hoping to be pointed in right direction. |

Wow, Americans can get 6% interest for online savings accounts? That's amazing.
I use PC Financial and get 4% interest from their long term savings account. It's pretty convenient to use as I can transfer money from my chequing account there to the savings account online. I think there's a $1K minimum balance required for the 4% interest rate in the savings account. |

PC Financial has a 4% interest rate with the possibility of up to 0.3% bonus I think, depending on how long you've had the account.
Etrade Canada has been advertising a "Cash optimizer" account which pays 4.15%. I haven't looked into it yet but I will soon. |

If anyone really wants to know why Canada's ING interest rate are different than US, just compare US Federal Reserve interest rate vs Bank of Canada's interest rate.

Basically the Canadian economy is better then the US right now, hence lower interest rates. (yes i know its more complex then that)
