Default Bigger games in Edmonton

Hey all, I'm heading up to Edmonton for Family Day long weekend. I'll be heading up on the Friday and leaving on Sunday. Is there a regular 15/30 game or higher running? How about NL/PL higher than 1/2?

The new River Cree casino west of the city has spread some bigger games, call the Yellowhead Casino too and ask what is going, but you are probably better off at River Cree. I believe they were spreading up to 10/20NL and 5/10PL Mixed as well as some 15-30FL, not positive about the limit though.....

Google "River Cree Casino" & "Yellowhead Casino" and you'll get all the info.

Great service in the poker room and attractive wait staff at the Cree.

Regards,
Woodguy

Yellowhead is my favourite fish tank. Here is a list of the 7 casinos in the capital region.

I deal at Century, which is new, and we don't have much traffic because we aren't open 24 hrs. You won't find anything past 1/2 NL or 3/6 HE except for an occaisional 4/8 DC game. Nice place but the hours make it a bad choice unless you play early in the day.

Palace at West Edmonton Mall is on strike so avoid it, I think it has been pretty dead anyways due to the picketers.

Yellowhead, Argyll and Baccarat are pretty safe bets for decent spreads (although I don't know what the higher limit games have been lately). Friday and Saturday should be pretty busy especially if the Oilers are playing on either night. The dealers have enough experience and the bad beat jackpots have been high.

I don't know what the action is like at Gold Dust in St. Albert but the people I have met that deal there are great.

I have mixed feelings about River Cree. It is nice but the dealers aren't all really good yet, but some are really good. It is still shiny and new as well so it is probably worth a look. I don't gamble at River Cree because they are exempt from Alberta charity obligations and if the house it taking my rake I want half to go to a charity or non-profit group.

Make sure you call ahead to put your name on the wait list because it may be a long wait for these games because we don't have too many.

Dan's 2 cents

Yellowhead has 10/20 limit hold'em on Fridays and 15/30 half hold'em half omaha high (yes, limit) on Saturdays. Call ahead for both of these games because only one table goes, and it can be hard to get a seat some nights. I have not been to River Cree so I don't know what they spread, but besides that those are the only higher limit games around except on big tournament weekends

Previous info is pretty good, At river cree (780-930-2707)on the weekend there will be 2-4 tables of 1-2NL $500Max, one 1-2NL DC $500 Max which can get to be a nice sized game. In addition there may be a sporadic 5-5PL DC, that most likely will happen on the weekend. No higher limit Limit games. Argyll (780-463-8181) will have a 5-5PL DC game as well, sharing the same players. I believe there is a 200 Min no max buyin for the PL games. Good luck, might see you at River Cree, make sure to keep your flames hat/jersey on so I can come say hi.

Some comments on what's been said so far:

As a dealer there I can tell you it'll be hit or miss regarding whether you'll get a good dealer. The housemen will make an effort to put the experienced dealers in the bigger games, however.

River Cree is not exempt from charity obligations. However, unlike other casinos they have one dedicated charity rather than whatever charity is up next on the list. It's called the Me'Chet charity and you can read more about it here. The casino doesn't get 100% of the profit.

We don't usually get games this big. As others have said, 5/5 PL DC goes regularly on weekends and some weeknights, but that's about it for regular action. The housemen will put an interest list for any game you'd like, though.

We also have $100 and $1000 sit n' go tournies on Thursday nights, which both go regularly. They start at 6:30 PM IIRC.

The 1/2 NL DC game that inevitably turns into a 5/5 PL DC game will often play bigger than a normal 1/2 game.

Hope this helps.

Do anyone have more info on Argyll (Casino Edmonton)? I am looking for 1/2 NLHE and tournaments.

Argyll has great 1-2 NL with occasional DC action. There will be one HE game by noon and increasing number of games until around 4 games by dinner. Very easy games. Not too sure about tourneys, call them at 463-8181

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I'll probably be checking out River Cree or Yellowhead. Probably won't be wearing any Flames gear though. Last time I did things got a little heated
