Pointing solutions for entertainment PC
I am thinking about building/installing an entertainment PC with a TV Tuner card, huge storage for DVR, and even for some possible poker playing. The PC will then be hooked up to my big screen, so I was thinking about the best pointing solution to use when playing poker from say, my couch.
I know a lot of people use those gyro-handheld things but I don't like them at all. I was leaning more along the side of a wireless keyboard with a touchpad, but the one I want is going to be like $120 and I was just wondering if there was something I am overlooking. Anyone have any good ideas or recommendations? Thanks in advance. /gold |

Re: Pointing solutions for entertainment PC
I use one of the Gyration mouse and keyboards and they work ok. I do have some problems with the mouse working and the keyboard not or vice versa. It can always be fixed by a quick channel change and "teaching" as Gyration calls it. I mostly use the mouse on the arm of my chair rather than actually holding it in the air. Overall it's ok, not awesome, but it gets the job done and the only time I really even use the mouse is when I'm running Rhapsody Music etc. Honestly, in the last few months I've just been using LogMeIn's free version to control my media pc from my laptop since I've always got it in my lap or on the arm of my chair there in the living room.
Sooo, I said all of that and didn't answer your question.lol My buddy got a Microsoft mouse and keyboard after his Gyration crapped out on him and he loves it. It's made for Media Center's and he just goes on and on about it. Let me ask him exactly what it is and what kind of mouse/touch pad it uses. I'll let ya know. What DVR software are you considering going with? |

Re: Pointing solutions for entertainment PC
The right answer is definitely to get a gamepad and use TableNavigator from the SoftwareForum FAQ. Instead of trying to navigate right onto the button, you use the direction pad to select the table and then hit a button called "fold", "call", or "raise".
TN is free, and you can get a good gampad for $20. If you want wireless, you might have to pay like $30. -Sam |
