Default Going to Foxwoods this weekend for the first time. Any advices?

Any tips? Things I must do, must not do? Best food? Any kind of advice will be appreciated.

I'm planning to play mostly NL 1/2, maybe try some omaha/8.

Thanks!

for 1-2nl you can buy in up to $300. The game plays pretty loose obviously so if you feel comfortable you should buy in for the max. Not sure about the O-8 action I'm pretty sure they have 2-4 and maybe 5-10. Never played in the games but if you don't have an AARP card you will be in the minority.

Make sure you sign up for a Wampum Card before you start playing so you can earn points while you play. Just give it to the floor when you sit down. You have to remember to check out when you are done playing though. You will earn $1 an hour playing 1-2 I think.

Theres plenty of places to eat at Foxwoots ranging from terrible to great. Basically you get what you pay for. On the pricier side there is Cedars Steak House, nice Italian place Aldente, and some Chinese place. On the cheaper side there is Fuddruckers (burgers) Panera Bread, Subway, Nathans Hot Dogs etc. In the middle they've got a Hard Rock Cafe which isn't bad if its not peak hours.

The buffet is overpriced, crowded, and generally unappetizing.

Theres nothing to do at Foxwoots besides gamble really so you're probably better off staying in the poker room. There is a cheesy cover band that plays upstairs in the bar in the main lobby til about 1:00 or 2:00 if you feel like dancing with some 40yr old women. theres a nightclub too but I've never been there and there is a dress code.

If you have a hotel room for the weekend I recommend taking advantage of the spa. Hotel guests get free use of the basement spa which includes a pool, hot tubs, sauna, and gym. If you don't have a hotel room you can usually just tell the woman at the desk that you are a guest and give her a bogus room number. A few trips to the hot tub/sauna over the course of the weekend helps tremendously if you are playing poker most of the time.

Finally, keep in mind that drink service in the poker room is extremely slow and that they stop serving early (1:00AM I think)

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.

Are there drinks still available in the rest of the casino after 1am? I like to pretend to play the slots machine after my poker session so I can get a few drinks before going to bed.

nope, state law prohibits any alcohol after 1:00. Your best bet is to hit up the liquor store a few miles down the road and load up your room fridge or car. You cant walk around the casino with bottles but if you're drinking out of a cup you'll be ok.

side note: there is a pretty cool shop right next to the liquor store which has a great selection of bongs and glass pipes

Low limit O8 at the Woods is 4/8 with a kill. No 2/4 and I think the next jump is 15/30. but I've only played the 4/8 game. Your AARP comment is spot on.

That said, the game is often pretty good if you can deal with the slow play and nittery and the fact that you can't really rely on the dealers to know how to read O8 hands.

Rumors also abound about a 2/4 HORSE game that goes occasionally but I've never seen it go during any of my visits.

The o/8 used to be 2/4 for awhile but these days it's 4/8 with a half kill to 6/12. The game is crazy loose/passive, and you'll be doing the game a great service by playing, as none of the players will be able to tell what they have at the river, and the dealer won't be of much help there either. Best game in the house if you're looking for safe money, it's nigh impossible to lose in it. If you're gonna play in it, play during the daytime, that's when it's best.

The 1/2 NL, of course, is also juicy and great at all hours of the day.

Regarding food, Waterfall pretty much covered it. There's also a California Pizza Kitchen which is good.

1/2 NL is juicy, forget about the 4/8 O8. They usually have a list of interest for 10/20 O8 or so, but I haven't seen it go. You'll sometimes get a 15/30 HOE game, now that was FUN!

Can't go wrong with buying in for $300 in the 1/2NL, then sit back and enjoy raking in the money

Hey, thanks everybody for the good advices.

I spent the weekend playing NL 1/2. We got there friday around 5pm and left sunday around 3pm. We were staying at the Two Tree Inn. Nice place, nothing special, but comfortable, but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway.

Variance hit me hard, I went as low as -400$, but ended up with a profit of 250$ in 24 hours of play. It could have been better I guess, I didn't sleep much before leaving and I couldn't sleep on the bus on the way there (traveling with a bunch of old ladies going on a bingo trip, don't ask...) So around 2am, I couldn't keep my eyes open and had to leave, but it seemed like the games were getting even juicier around that time.

Saturday was so packed, there was around 100 names on the list in the early afternoon. Lucky for me, I got there around 11am when it wasn't too packed and somebody told me I could get off for 2h for dinner and they would put me back second on the list when I got back. Worked like a charmed, I didn't wait more than 5 minutes when I got back around 8pm.

It was only my 3rd time playing live, the first two times were at the Taj in AC. Foxwoods is much nicer, classier I thought, not as many weirdos.

The games were so good, but like low stakes online, you need to catch cards to win. I won huge pots on my monsters, even after folding for 2 hours. But saturday I caught nothing for 7-8 hours I think, that's when I reached my lowest point of -400$, but I started getting some cards a little after dinner and went on a 650$ streak which covered my loss and paid for the trip.

As for food, we had coupons for 3 free buffets, 2 dinner and one breakfast. I thought the buffet was pretty good, nice seafood, nice steaks, more than good enough. But it was too crowded on saturday, we took a quick bite at some deli place, nice turkey sandwich.

Again, thanks for the tips, I really enjoyed my weekend, looking forward to the next bingo trip, in april.
