Default AC 1/26-1/28 Trip Report

Being a monster Bears fan I decided to set up a trip to AC this weekend with some friends to try and keep myself from going nuts. With the tourney at the Borg I realized I would have to stear clear of there, but it would give me a chance to see some places I normally don't go to.

The plan was to start with the 2pm tourney at The Showboat, but I got stuck at work late and didn't get into town until about 3:30. So we grabbed a bite to eat and went to the Showboat. I started with a 1/2NL game while waiting for the 7pm tourney. Not too eventful for a few hours and I was up a few dollars when a guy sits down in the two seat. The guy sitting next to me leans over and says, "I've played with this guy before, he's real tight and a real ass." I nod, fold my hand and head over to the cashiers cage to sign up for the tourney. When I come back the older asian man sitting next to me and the guy from seat 2 are screaming at each other. With the Asian guy saying he will put a curse on the guy and the 2 seat yelling he will break his bones. The floor came right over and the two settled down then the floor came over and made sure both were happy with the arrangment. I got up a few minutes later to sit in my tourney seat, but a dealer told me they had to kick the guy out when he got in a fight with another player.

My run of cold cards continued in the tournament, but somehow I was close to the table chip leader at the break. Of course I run real bad at coinflips. So my stack was down to about 20,000 at 600/1200 when this hand came up: CO (who is a good player) opens up for 3,000, SB has seen CO do this a few times and thinks for a bit before calling. I insta push in the BB. CO smiles and folds and the SB goes into the tank. He has about 8,000 Thinks for two minutes and calls turning over QQ! My jaw hits the floor. What the hell were you thinking about? "Well I thought you had aces." Aces? I didn't even look at my cards. Turns out I had AQ, but no hope of an ace hitting the board in five cards. I bust out a few orbits later.

Back to the cash game. It was a wonderful table. It was fun and chatty and they called EVERYTHING. For some reason though I'm getting nothing. I just can't hit a hand. I'm just slowly hemorhaging about $20 an hour. I'm about to get up after five hours just because I'm getting tired. Then a kid sits down next to me with his pretty cute girlfriend sweating him. So I start talking to her. She spoke perfect English, but when she talked to him it was in French. They were there for a few hands, then they left when I was in the bathroom. Now sitting next to me is another very attractive, very cute girl. I'm now confused if I'm in a card room still. This girl looks real familiar, turns out she used to work at Chicky and Pete's in south Philly. Somewhere along the line she must notice my ring and whines about every guy in the room being married. I was a bit confused, she walked in with three guys. "Oh no I don't want a boy friend, I'm just looking to have fun." So I don't know if she is now a hooker or what, but I'm too drunk and tired to figure it out, so I'm going to bed down.

We stayed in the Best Western Envoy on New York and Pacific. It was not my choice on rooms and I don't think it will be for anybody else. There was some yellow stains on the towels and the sheets smelled like they just poured bleach on them in the room.

I was up pretty early the next morning. Grabbed some breakfast from downstairs, and headed over to the Taj while everyone else was still asleep in the room. I saw the 10:15 tourney and thought I would play one more. I would have been better just making a hundred dollar bill into a paper airplane and seeing if I could get it to come back to me. The structure was awful. You start with 5,000 in chips. I ran QQ into KK on the third hand and then when the antes kicked in the third level 25/100/200 I was already down to just over 2000. Push/call I still suck at coinflips. The Taj room is getting there. I had stopped there in August late at night and there has been a big improvement since then. The $1 chips still stick together and are so dirty you have to make sure you wash your hands twice before peeing. They start a new table of 1/2NL when I sign up and the is an OBILF sitting in the one seat. She looks about 45, but she is already trashed at 10:45 am so the drinking could be adding a few years. She also loved to call preflop, call/bet $25 on the flop, call/bet $25 on the turn and then fold the river. Too bad the whole table had bought in short or I could have walked away with more than just double my buy-in. A little after 2pm and I have not heard from any of my friends and I could eat a horse. So I decide to rack up and leave. Most of the game had broken up and nobody had any chips in front of them so I wasn't missing much.

Now I don't own a cell phone. I don't want people finding me. But I understood the need for it this weekend and took my wife's phone. So as I'm leaving the Taj I look down at the phone and see that it shut itself off. Battery is dead. Well crap. So I try to get off a speed phone call to one of my buddies. Of course he was eating at the time and couldn't get the phone out of his pocket so I get sent to voice mail. "Yo, phone's dying. I'm walking from the Taj to Ballys now so..." phone shuts off.

It is a beautiful day for a walk. It's 50 and sunny and everybody is out on the boarwalk. The kids playing drums on empty kegs, the blind guy playing sax, the lady with no legs selling pencils, it was like June. I walk down to Ballys through the casino, up to the card room can't find anyone. Well my one friend wanted to stop by the Trop so maybe he is there. I walk down to the Trop through the casino and through the poker room where I don't even see a pink chip game to distract me and of course nobody I'm looking for. So I stop off at the cell phone place on the boardwalk and manage to talk the girl into letting me just put a charger in the phone long enough to make one call. I do that and find out they are in Ballys cardroom. I must have just missed them. So I walk back to Ballys.

The Ballys card room is up the elevators and as I walk in I feel like it is 1983. The room is filled with smoke and there are no cup holders on the table so there are people eating and drinking right off of the felt. Plus I guess their computers were down so they had to do everything by hand. Add to it the fact that they were twice as busy as usual and the floor people were running around like chickens with their heads chopped off.

I sit down at a 1/3NL game. And my table stinks. It is filled with regulars. A kid with a Yankees hat on and what I assume is his girlfriend laying on him. A crabby old guy with a beard. Next to him a grey haired guy with glasses falling asleep but has about $1600 sitting in front of him. To make matters worse they are hyper nitty and just complain about everything and then can't stop talking about how great they are at poker. Of course they know all of the dealers and the floors so their calling their names for everything. To their left is four god awful players who are just in a buzz saw. Of course with them being such pains in the asses none of the dopes will give them any action. I quickly double my buy-in. They all seem very happy to give me action and I'm loving it. Then the grey haired guy finally calls it a day and his seat is taken by an absolutly stunning girl. She sits down and is very pleasant and chatty. She was just over at the Borgata and can't stop talking about all of the pros. Of course I bust her. The nicest person to sit down in three hours and I bust her.

My buddy comes over and asks if I want to use his comps to get some dinner. We head down to Pickles which I believe was created by Andre the Giant because all of the sandwiches are huge. I had a pretty tasty Buffalo Chicken wrap. I think the meals were like $10 a piece, but they were really good.

The room at Ballys was nice and we had a great view of the ocean. I took a shower and then headed right back over to the poker room. My table was just great. In the one seat was a weak/calling station, 2 seat weak/calling station, 3 seat weak calling station, 4 seat was a rock tight guy who was salivating, I was in the 5, my buddy who is pretty solid was in the 6, the 7 was weak tight, as was the 8 the 9 played 7-8 hands an orbit for big raises and the 10 seat was a good player. The average hand was 10 seat raises to $10 UTG and there would be 5 calls to me. It was like a wet dream. Of course I hit absolutly NOTHING. No top pair, no two pair, no flushes, just nothing for 6 hours. I won two hands with a re-raise before the flop and a continuation bet. Then I won a pot with a straight where it was a 7-way $74 preflop pot, I called with red sixes and the board was 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] it checked around on every street. Just to keep the streak going toward the end of this hell a girl sits down next to my buddy with a quality st of fake breasts and a $10,000-$15,000 diamond on her finger.

2am I bust off of the table down two buy-ins. I walk out to the bar outside and bet some horses just to get the monkey tilt feeling out of me. I was unable to talk my friend, who was up a few buy-ins from that sweet table the night before, into hanging around in town for a few more hours.

Awesome report, too bad you did not run well. I know how frustrating it gets when you have horrible players around you, and you do not get anything to do battle with.

The Showboat cancelled the tournament this weekend. A player gets the most value in that tournament. 105 + 20 and 15,000 in chips.

I agree with you on the Taj Mahals tournament structure.

The Tropicanna has a decent structure. 25-50 50-100 75-150 break 100-200 100-200 25 ante....

We must have had a full moon this Friday. I read in another thread that they had a fight at the Foxwoods. The Taj Mahal had a brawl in it Friday night as well.
