Default The Quiet American and other Greene Novels

I recently read The Quiet American and I thought it was an amazing novel. It was very interesting on many levels, not even including the fact that it essentially predicted the events that would follow 10-15 years before they happened.

What book should I read next, and what other similar books would you recommend by different authors?

I've only read 4 of his novels, including 'Quiet American', but 'Brighton Rock' was a great thriller/mystery and 'Our Man in Havana' is a very cool espionage story about an SIS agent in Cuba. 'Quiet American' is still my favorite.

I loved "The Quiet American" and "Our Man in Havana". Have not read any more of Greene's books. I remember being fascinated by the idea of living somewhere so completely "foreign" in every way. Wish I could still visit some of the places I've read about in books.

The Power and the Glory and the End of the Affair are both really amazing. I like the latter a bit more, but they're both great books.

I think Greene is one of the best prose writers. He is definitely the kind of author you want to read slowly and even re-read sentences to savour the flow of the novel.

Another nod for reading The Power and the Glory. Sad to say it's the only Greene novel I've read, but it was quite powerful.

In addition to the books mentioned above, I highly recommend "The Heart of the Matter," and "A Burnt-Out Case." Both are set in Africa and are excellent.

Greene was a very interesting man who led a remarkable life. He got up every morning, uncapped his pen, wrote 500 words on whatever he was writing, capped his pen, and went about whatever he was doing at the time. Usually drinking, whoring, and repenting.

I highly recommend "The Heart of the Matter,"

Forgot this one, also excellent. One thing to note is that Greene's best works usually deal with religious themes, so if you find that offputting, beware.

I read The Heart of the Matter - it was phenomenal. I also picked up 'Orient Express' the other day - anyone here read that?

I really like, "A sort of life", his second autobiography.

"The Honorary Consul" is my other favorite novel of his.

His travel book, "The Lawless Roads" is outstanding.
